View Full Version : Internet Radio url Tune In problems?

I am having trouble manually entering internet radio station urls. I've installed the 7 December nightly release.

1) There is a difference between using the SlimServer window, and using Internet Explorer to view http://localhost:9000.

Using the SlimServer window, I always get a Javascript error (line 43, char 31):

'parent.status.location' is null or not an object.
url: http://localhost:9000/html/docs/radio.html?p0=playlist&p1=play&player=00%3A04%3A20%3A05%3A37%3A3e&p2=http%3A%2F%2Flove.str3am.com%2Fasx%2Fxpn.asx

This appears to happen no matter what radio station url I enter. If I use the example radio station url (http://www.hitzradio.com/hitzradio.pls), I get the error, but if I select to continue running scripts and refresh the display, it does actually display the playlist, etc.

If I access the interface through a standard browser instance, http://www.hitzradio.com/hitzradio.pls plays fine without getting the Javascript error.

2) http://love.str3am.com/asx/xpn.asx plays fine in WMP, but SlimServer reports 0 playlist entries.

I forgot to mention that I am using the Fishbone skin.

The bugs that you mention are 678
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678) and 679
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679). The latter bug has
been fixed (which should allow you to play the station), the former is
still being worked on (so you'll still see the script error, though it's
harmless).

You can get the latest 5.4.x (stable) branch build at
http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest/5.4.1/.

I tried that, but it still doesn't work.

The contents of the asx file is:

<asx version = "3.0">
<AUTHOR>88.5 XPN.org</AUTHOR>
<COPYRIGHT>2003 The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania</COPYRIGHT>
<Entry ClientSkip = "no">
<ref href = "http://wma.str3am.com/gateway/WXPNGateway.wma"/>
<BANNER HREF="http://xpn.org/imgs/player_support.gif">
Click here to support XPN.
<MOREINFO HREF="https://secure.publicbroadcasting.net/wxpn/pledge.pledgemain?action=pledge&pg=pledgeForm" />
</BANNER>
</entry>
<Entry>
<ref href = "http://wma.str3am.com/xpndotorg"/>

<MOREINFO HREF="https://secure.publicbroadcasting.net/wxpn/pledge.pledgemain?action=pledge&pg=pledgeForm" />
</BANNER>
</entry>
</asx>

As a test, I tried removing the querystring part from the moreinfo href (everything including the ? onwards), saved it as a new asx file on my website. I tried loading this into WMP and it played fine. I then entered the url into SlimServer, and it came up with an empty playlist.

Sounds similar to the problem I have been having with this url:
http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/swn/oneplace/wm/aiow/aiow20041204.wax

I have also never gotten satisfactory results while trying to listen to
NPR's programming (though the symptoms are a bit different). My issues with
that are outlined in this thread:
http://lists.slimdevices.com/archives/discuss/2004-November/038208.html

Steve Bernard graciously looked at that issue and determined that it had
something to do with the way that NPR encodes their streams. While I
realize that moving to the SQL backend is a priority right now, perhaps
someone from the slimserver dev team could take a look at some of these
issues at some point--it'd be great to have really solid support for wma
streaming.

I must say that I feel spoiled with this hardware and software -- never
before have I seen such development responsiveness and real, tangible
functionality added to something so quickly -- kudos to the slim community.
