Hi All-
I can't find a way to correct the order of the songs playing through Squeezebox so that they are in the same track order that was originally download from CD. Using folders containing categories of music (jazz, classical, world, etc.) after selecting the album that i want to play Squeezebox seems to randomly select each track to play out of order (6, 8, 20, 1, etc.). I'm sure that there must be a simple method to correct this but I'm unable to discover it myself. Can anyone out there help me?
Thanks!

Either you have selected shuffle mode , so unselect that .

Or you use "music folder" instead of album or artist to browse you music .

I want to use folders. everything is in order in each folder and is nicely organized. each album in each folder is in properly in order. it's only when i play them through Squeezebox that they are played randomly. shuffle is not on.

When playing by folder, if the filename includes the track number (01 - Track name), then it should play the tracks in the correct order.

When browsing folders you are not using the embedded tags in the files like track number . But they are sorted like the OS sorts the folders and files .
So folder browse find the files alphabetically so make the filenames so the files sort as you want .

For,example,name the tracks like 01-track or 001-track .

That's the only thing I can think of except shuffle mode .

And btw are the file tags in good order it migth confuse LMS if they are not , the tags are used for presentation in the UI even they are not used for sorting when folder browsing so if the track contains a faulty track number tag .

As has been discussed in these forums repeatedly, browse by music folder (BMF) is not the best way to use LMS. If your files are properly tagged, every other method to access your music using the built-in database is going to work faster and with generally better results.

I don't understand why people use BMF either. I have only ever seen one legitimate argument for it and that was a weird use scenario in another way as well - single file for an album with cue sheet.
The only slight annoyance I have with viewing artist then album is that there is no way (that I have discovered) of listing albums in true chronological order in the case of prolific artists who release two (or more) albums in the same year.
No doubt someone will tell me I am wrong and how.

It comes in handy when I've just copied a new album to my library and I don't want to take the time to run a "New/Changed" rescan. When you play by folder it automatically loads the tags and artwork into the database. Works fine because my filenames all have leading track number as others have mentioned.

It can be the only way for some that listen a lot to classical music , tags don't really suffice and Erlands suite of plugins can help this but can be hard to setup properly .

Yes, true that. If I want to hear the CD exactly as it was originally programmed BMF is the only way to do it. If a CD has two symphonies I'll tag them each tracks 1 through 4 but the filenames will lead with 01 through 08. It's a PITA but that's what Mp3tag is for!

I use BMF when I add new music. Quick and easy way to get the music into the database.
I just added a LIVE album and wanted to play it in order. Since I was in BMF it played alphabetically. Of course I wanted to listen to it in the proper order.
I use random play almost exclusively. I forgot about this nuance.
Quick search of the forums and the answer was there.

Long live my Squeezebox(LMS)

Thanks,

Hi,

since BMF is just "a gimmick" i dont use that more than once a year :p

But i have a tip for you:

My Files are always named like that:

artist - album -track - title (nonsamplers)
album - track - artist - title (samplers)

using that structure always list these files in the right order and they look "nicer" too.

yapp to good old times *lol* the newer 7.9 didnt add files when using bmf (was a feature request from some audiophoolish that Michael integrated)

I think you may be getting confused with "Discs and folders", which doesn't add to the database. "Music Folder" does in 7.9, I've just done it.

[OT]
No - i didnt (even never used Discs and Folders).

Please do the following:

add some new album from a well know artist.
make sure - its not listed
use bmf to the new album
play the tracks (or only one)
go to the playerinterface on the right and double click the artist
you only see the "old" albums from that artist (not the new added one)
if you do search for that artist again - the new album is listed ?
but if you klick to the artist again - its not listed.

hmmm

if i do a maintenance on the lms server its listed. But i think i remeber that Michael wrote that he changed this "feature" do not add them anymore and introduced the tmpfile for that.?

[OT]

Using latest 7.9 nightly.

I added a new album to my Music folder (the folder entered at LMS > Settings > Basic Settings > Music Folders).
Using BMF I browsed to the album and played a track.

I can now access this new album by:

Home > Album Artists >
Home > Albums >
Home > Genres >
Home Years >
All above complete with cover art.

I concede that this new album does not show under Home > New Music, nor can I search for it.

Maybe something Michael would like to comment on?

Yapp - but i think we should do open a new thread for this - cause its OT and i even realised in the morning that this thread is already "very" old.

btw: I "talk" to Michael about this long ago and he didnt answer me "your wrong" so i already have a workaround for this.

Simple by adding the new files into a playlist and do the scanner-playlist command - that is fast works and (other than using the lms webgui to bmf) its scriptable:)

If you'r want to try it and run a *nix system for lms - gimme a feedback.

No interest in BMF.

When I've ripped a new album with EZ CD Audio Convertor, tagged to my liking with mp3tag, found on internet or scanned the album cover, resized, adjusted color ect., embedded the artwork, added replay gain tags with Foobar 2000, added the music folder/files to my "L" drive, synched this to my Raspberry Pi attached USB drive, I'm sure I can wait a couple of minutes while I do a New and Changed scan :)
