Have been enjoying my squeezeboxes for many years.

Currently have 2 booms and a classic.

Recently (within the last month or so), web interface becomes unresponsive seemingly at random. Click to play a new album and nothing happens. Or the album will show up in the currently playing list, with track time moving, but the display on the squeezeboxes themselves will freeze at 00:00 time on the first track of the album.

If I reboot my computer, then the system will become usable again until it happens the next time. Have uninstalled almost all plugins, to see if maybe that was the issue - recently messed around with the SDT plugin to get it working again. Have uninstalled it, and all the other plugins I had, but the problem I describe still appears...seemingly more frequently over the last few days.

Running LMS 7.8 on a Windows 7 Home premium machine...external USB drive with music library attached.

Setup worked very reliably for the last several years until recently.

I can't imagine there is a simple answer to my question, but could somebody out there attempt to lend me a hand as far as what might be wrong here?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried restarting LMS itself when the problems begin? That would tell you whether its LMS rather than something happening elsewhere within the computer that is the source of the problem.

Please check the server.log, too.

I got fed up last night, uninstalled LMS...and then reinstalled it, and configured the three players again from square one.

Something I notice is that LMS now starts up a whole lot faster than it did before - used to take a few minutes to start up on a reboot, and now takes just a couple of moments.

Hadn't done a fresh install of LMS since I got this current computer around three years ago.

So far I've played a couple of selections this AM without any problems - we'll see how things develop over the next few days before I start posting server.logs.

Thanks for the responses.

So the system still hangs up.

Don't really know much about interpreting server logs, but the system got hung up again tonight while accessing "Complete Live in Paris 1965". Then I restarted LMS (without rebooting computer), and was then able to play the album without a hangup.

Up until a few weeks ago, I'd never experienced this particular issue in my squeezebox world.

Now thinking that I might need to image and replace my music drive.

Here are the last couple of lines of the server log including the album that stalled on play, and then the server restart.

Still loving my squeezeboxes, but very frustrating...

So the system still hangs up.

This is happening during music playback? Are you doing anything on the server when this happens? Browsing music, for instance.

I don't see anything unusual in the log. That warning message has been there for years.

Now thinking that I might need to image and replace my music drive.

Is the drive actually having problems? Try a SMART reporting tool to see whether or not it is. One free tool you can use is CrystalDiskInfo (http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html). If it says the drive is good, then I wouldn't worry about the drive.

Not doing anything with the server aside from pressing -> key to play another album...After the previous album ended as far as I remember.

Took a look at the music drive with a few utilities that report the drive as "green", and "healthy"...but I'm running out of ideas as to what might be going wrong.

EDIT - CrystalDiskInfo says the music drive is "good".

Rebooted router, and modem tonight...after not having done that in a long while...like I said, I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Are you running LMS as administrator? Also, is it possible to try your music library (on a smaller scale) on your internal drive?

Yes on administrator.

I guess I could try and run some music from the internal drive.

Just very perplexing, since I've had the system configured this way for many years, have played countless hours of music without a hiccup, and then within the last few weeks I run into this issue every couple of days where I press "play" and nothing happens.

Again, the album tracks appear on the web interface, the track times move on the web interface, but the first track freezes on the players at 00:00.

This happens seemingly at random, and on some albums I've played dozens of times through since I set the system up.

Have you perhaps "upgraded" your Anti Virus software recently ?

Try the suggestions above but also check to see whether your USB drive is excluded from Anti-Virus on-demand scanning. Try switching off AV altogether (temporarily) for testing.

Haven't messed with the AV suite since I set it up originally.

The music drive is on the exclusion list as far as AV activity goes.

FWIW, I think I might have solved the problem.

I had downloaded Squeeze Control, Squeeze Commander, and Orange Squeeze to my Samsung phone in order to compare them.

I didn't consider that having three squeezebox controller apps running simultaneously might "confuse" things...now that I've uninstalled all but Orange Squeeze, playback has been smooth for the last few days, and I've been purposely throwing a lot of track/album changes into the mix so as to replicate the issue I've described.

So far, so good...
