I'm new to the squeezebox, my parents bought one last week and I'm
trying to set it up and teach them how to use it.

If I add some new music to the music folder, I have to rescan before
slimserver will pick it up, correct? It seems that rescaning actually
rescans each file and takes a really long time. Is there anyway I can
tell the slimserver just to scan one folder?

The server should scan new files if you navigate usign browse music folder and
access that folder. Having said that, some users have been pointing out that
this isn't working on their systems. It is still worth a try. The exact
details of the problem are yet know as far as I know. It seems to be more
related to windows, but I'm not sure if it is the same for all windows systems.
It might also be different if you just add files to a folder instead of
creating a new folder and putting new files in that.

Just browse to that folder (Browse Music) and the files will be added to
the database.

I've been having the problem with "Browse Music Folder" not finding
recent additions as well (running Windows 98), but I can't find a
bug report on the topic; should I file one?

That said, the primary hard disk on my server decided to cash in
its chips this past weekend (no music lost, thank goodness), which
may be a sign that it's time to move to a more capable OS. Hence,
I may be unable to test a fix for this problem.
