Greetings Zombie Squeezebox Owners,

If you navigate to Radio->Staff Picks->Ben's Picks>Podcasts, the list has been refreshed with some new picks. Two trivia/quiz show style, one sports commentary, and one music-based podcast.

Ask Me Another (NPR) blends brainteasers and local pub trivia night with comedy and music into a rambunctious hour-long show. Play along as Host Ophira Eisenberg invites in-studio guests and listeners alike to stretch their noggins, tickle their funny bones, and enjoy witty banter and guitar riffs from house musician Jonathan Coulton. What you'll hear resembles the casual intimacy of game night at a friend's house: one where scores are forgotten in favor of hilarious gaffes. Good Job, Brain! is a free weekly clean audio podcast that's part quiz show & part offbeat news. It's the ultimate nutrition for your brain. So eat up! Good Job, Brain! was started through a kickstarter project and is independently produced. More here: http://www.goodjobbrain.com/

Hang Up And Listen from Slate is weekly, heady and humorous sports commentary. Worth a listen if you enjoy sports but not ESPN. More here http://www.slate.com/articles/podcasts/hang_up_and_listen.html

Music for Programming is a periodically updated podcast of ambient music specifically designed for use when focusing on coding (or other focus-necessary activities). It's reminiscent of e.g. Soma's Groove Salad, but it's definitely its own animal. More here: http://www.musicforprogramming.net/

Finallly, Alec Baldwin got into one too many absurd verbally abusive scenes with the public and decided to remove himself from the scrutiny of the masses, and as a result his consistently excellent "Here's the Thing" podcast is no more. So, I removed that one from the list.

Several years post-squeezebox "death", my 10 squeezeboxes are all chugging along nicely, thankyouverymuch.

Never give up! Never surrender!

cheers,

Ben,

cool to see you still update this. Next step: with all the new stuff in LMS 7.9, maybe we will eventually get better podcast support, too, now that would be some news.... :)

Hey, I recently had my second casualty, the power supply (and only the power supply) of my very first Squeezebox, now almost 8 years old. OK, I had one more casualty, a Radio but let's not count that because it was still in the warranty period (although I never came to get a replacement because it was stolen in the mail and then later actually used - I saw it getting removed from my MySB account; yes, the broken one... but I'm zoning out...).

So yes, I suppose we all couldn't be much happier with our Squeezeboxes, they really seem to be worth their money. thankYOUverymuch

Sorry to be a 'wet blanket' .... but I 'd prefer that Staff Picks be made an uninstallable item. It's completely out of date, and I'm not particularly interested in the choices of long-departed staff! Might have been an 'amusing' personal feature years ago, but it's now only of historical interest!

In a similar vein, I don't like 'My Music' either .... sounds like 'My Little Pony' or 'My First Spelling Book' - it should just be 'Music'

Yes, I'm feeling grumpy today! Sorry.

KABOOM! Just thinking today how my 11 (c'mon!) squeezeboxes are still giving my great joy and noticing how 6 year old "defunct" Booms are still easily fetching 100+ on eBay. Agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. I came here to see how open source the radio code is to have a play :)

Thanks ! Wil have a listen :) . Long live squeezebox ( hell hydra )

Speaking of the whole Idea with " staff picks " it is quite typical of the squeezebox universe ideas are rarely realised to thier full potential.

What " squeezenetwork " would have benefitted from in the past was something like curated content picking that's actively maintained and maybe even some weekly shows .

Idea ? Let some music interested forum members pick thier stuff .

"Jazz picks by xxxxx" " indie with yyyyyy" " nnnnn's classic picks "

Idea ? Let some music interested forum members pick thier stuff .

That is an excellent idea, is there enough life in the squeezebox team (I wonder: how is there still any kind of squeezebox team?) to do the tiny bit of validation and putting it up there required?

Why not try to use the forum for this? We could have a section where people post curated links and LMS or the device itself could parse it?
I've been trying something like that with the browser feature in iPeng and the "Currently Playing" thread where you can actually post working links and directly play them but it didn't really pick up...

But maybe if it was implemented directly on the device....

Or rather in a plugin? That would serve players and controllers.

Yea, that's more or less what I meant, sorry for being imprecise :)
