View Full Version : If I migrate from MSB to ickStream, how do I transfer my Favourites?

Hi all.

This is a question I have been wondering about for a while in case MSB goes off-line permanently. The new ickStream alternative is looking very attractive. Now, I have several hundred streams saved in my Favourites page on MSB, and I see that these can be saved as an OPML file. However, is there an easy way of dragging and dropping this file into the equivalent page in ickStream? The thought of manually adding the streams one by one is something that fills me with a minor sense of dread. If there is a quick way of porting them over, then I think I will take the plunge.

So, what can others suggest?

Thanks and regards,
Nick

What kind of favorites are we talking about ?
Playable internet radio station/pod cast urls ?
Links to albums on music on demand services ?
Something else ?

We are working on a favorites service but currently the only kind of favorites that are available in the open beta are the favorites you setup in each music on demand service. So as an example, if you setup a favorite in the official TIDAL app these will also automatically appear in the ickStream menu.

It would probably be possible to create some kind of migration script that can handle parts of the favorites automatically but we haven't looked at this in detail yet.

Thanks Erland. These are urls of radio station streams that I have, and it's mainly what I use the Squeezebox for.

Bottom of favorites page on mysb.com. Right click and save on the save as opml link. (Don't click the link, right click and save as). Then this favorites.opml file can be imported into your LMS and become local favorites.

Thanks Gary. If I could import the .opml file like that into the ickStream server then that would be brilliant.

However, this brings me to another problem related to LMS. It's always running on the computer (an iMac) in the background and recently the System Preferences pane keeps reminding me that a new version is available and whether I want to download it. However, when I select the download option nothing seems to happen and I get the reminder popping up again later in the day. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Thanks,
Nick

Good point. This _should_ be doable. Maybe we'll write a little tool for this (or someone else has fun doing it). All one needs is a way to parse the OPML file into ids for the respective services and then create ickStream ids from it which is usually straightforward. I'm doing something similar in iPeng to play links from facebook or blogs or create links to be posted on fb or twitter.

But for now a first step would be to have an "on ickStream" favorites item to actually use ickStream favorites in LMS.

That seems to be some LMS 7.7.4 issue, others seem to see that, two, there's a thread about it somewhere.

Thanks pippin. I'm actually running LMS 7.7.3 so I presume the same problem applies to that as well?

Could you please chime in on one of the other related threads? In
particular with information about your OSX version etc. Thanks!

Thanks Michael. I will be upgrading to OS X Yosemite soon so I'm hopeful that will solve the problem. I've been a bit hesitant as I've read that it seems to be a bit buggy.

Well I have now updated to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 but the problem with the prompt from System Preferences asking me to update LMS remains - i.e. I choose to update, nothing happens and I get the reminder pop up again later. Any more ideas please?

Nick
