We have a Davis weather station and weatherview32 software for our weather
site
http://www.altamer.com/article/articleview/149/

We would like to export the current temp, humidity and wind direction/speed
and display on our slimp3s as a plugin. How hard is that to do, any ideas,
anyone want some work to do it?

I mentioned this on the list a while ago -- I have a Vantage Pro on
the same Mac I've got slim server running on. I can write out a file
in pretty much any format -- the issue is, how to proceed at getting
Slim Server to display it? (I'd really just like to display the
temperature outside right next to the time on the "off" display.)

It would be a cool option to pull weather from a remote weather
server for people who aren't crazy enough to have stations, too. Live
temps (and forecasts?) on your SB!

I used to ahve a plugin until weather.com made their license too restrictive. I
fear this is becoming an increasing problem. NOAA has at least been gracious
enough to make their data available, but this is of little consolation to the
population outside the United States.

If its one thing that Perl is really great at, its parsing text. any text you
dump to the hard drive should be an easy task to parse into a slimserver
display line as long as there are enough common markers to use for marking the
useful information. Kevin Walsh's BBC News and Maximum Edge news plugins are a
great example of this. I based my news plugins, horoscope plugin and the
forecaster on those. To have this display as part of the 'off' display, just
modify the existing datetime screensaver (Plugins/DateTime/Plugin.pm) and you
can have it display anything you like along with the date and time.
