Just to cover the basics, have you patched your LANG variable to
"en_US"? There've been loads of problem reports w/ rh9 using the
default LANG (CPAN won't even work right).

To change the default for all users (and system startup scripts),
modify /etc/sysconfig/i18n

mine looks like:
[cwitte@zephyr etc]$ cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
LANG="en_US"
SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"
SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"

Thanks for the suggestion, but that was one of the first things I did
when I installed RH9 :)
