I've been a happy S3 user of the past 6 years. I was wondering if there exists a plugin to record a radio station being streamed?

Not that i am aware of. You might want to check out dar.fm website. This allows you to record radio shows and perhaps you can get a link that would work on squeezebox.

Replay Media Catcher works a treat. If you are using a link, w.g. YouTube, it goes to the root file and downloads much faster than actual play time. For radio, of course, this will be different, and it's not internal to LMS so not clear exactly how it would work for a stream generated that way.

Take a look at Audacity. Many use it for editing but it also records streaming audio. It's free. Link below.

I've found dar.fm to be unreliable. They have also slowly removed features from the free version over the last few years. I now use streamripper which is a simple tool that can be run from cron.

You can use squeezelite as a player set up to send output to stdout and this audio output can be saved in a file.

Recording of streams e.g. played by squeezelite can be done very well with Total Recorder (http://www.totalrecorder.com). Virtual Audio Cable (http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm) can be very helpful.

I've used Total Recorder a lot in the past (though I seldom use it now). It has the advantage of capturing the data before the computer sound card (and we all know that most consumer PC sound cards aren't exactly designed with high quality audio in mind) and without doing digital-analog-digital conversions, rather than using the sound card outputs as most other audio capturing software do.
