Any ideas on how to make the lower front of a black SB3 silver? I can't find any used with silver front..

As you may know, it's only a skinny face plate that is glued on. Have you included dead silver SB3s in your search, from which you could cannibalize the face plate?

If it can be removed, you could wrap it with a 3M 1080 series vinyl. A sample piece would probably be enough. It's available in many colours and textures like brushed aluminum, etc. I've used it for different things including auto trim pieces.

Yhanks. I found a white one for sale, with the 'white' back and lower front, but I wonder if it is really white or silver.. hard to tell from online photos.. I have 'silver' hifi-components and would like a nicer match than the black sb3's I have now.. any advice or anyone who has seen the 'white' ones?

I'm pretty sure the faceplate of the white SB3 is silver, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

I can confirm that the faceplate on the white unit from slimdevices is silver as I have one.

Thanks! From your experience, which is a better match for silver gear, the black with silver or the white with silver?

I like the look of my black/silver sb3 a lot more than the white/silver combo.

Hmm these are collectibles so only facelift them if it can be done without issues .

....but it should be slimdevices on the front ;)

For me the white / silver SB3 is in the bedroom (with a compact audio system dressed in white ABS to match, picture in another thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?89276-Which-amp-for-a-squeezebox&p=668007&viewfull=1#post668007))
The black / silver SB3 is on top of a stack of hifi components in the living room

I think the white stands out much more. I can confirm the faceplates are interchangeable. I would like to know how to separate the aluminium plate from the smoke plastic front (the window can get easily scratched, too) but to me this seems impossible; at least through mechanical action.

I have no experience of this particular problem (until I read this, I didn't know that the SB3 front plates were stuck on), but for a similar problem involving trying to separate something fragile, which was held on with double-sided sticky, from something else fragile, I used this approach:

Whilst gently prising the two stuck items apart, using a tool which will not scratch or gouge edges (e.g. a plastic spatula sort of thing), drip some surgical spirit (that's exactly what I used) in between, to dissolve the glue (as it did in my case; the glue goes 'gungy'). Keep gently working the items apart, whilst dripping more spirit in between. It might be useful to have someone assisting. When separated, clean off remaining glue, dry, and attach new item with double-sided Scotch tape.

HTH.

Sorry I can't help you with this, but the silver faceplate on my black SD-branded SB3 just started separating on its own after a couple years. So I've been trying to push it back down, rather than pry it the rest of the way off!
