View Full Version : Softsqueeze/Squeezebox though internet

Hi,

Whenever I listen to my music library remotely both a squeezebox or
softqueeze have trouble menu navigating - mainly when going in or out of a
tree structure, the display will flick up the lost connection to slimserver
message before displaying the proper info. Actual playback seems fine with
transcoding to 128kb. Ports 9000, 9090, 3483 are all open on the firewall
at the office where the server is located and mapped to the machine's IP
address hosting slimserver. it's something I have always found to be a
bugbear thoughout various server versions.

As an aside has anyone sucessfully run slimserver on an XBox? Just a
thought recently as I have no other uses for a PC at home so don't fancy the
clutter / expense of having a desktop pc, but noticed last night there's an
xbox linux community thing which might provide a suitably compact and
discreet server for home?

Thanks,
Nick

I'm about to start experimenting with this. Although I have 4 Squeezeboxes
in my home, I'm desperately looking for a box that will let me stream Video
(specifically my ripped VOB files) and since SlimDevices won't
(understandably, I suppose) indicate when they might release such a box,
I've been looking at several alternatives.....having bought/given
up/returned both a PrismIQ, an AminoNet and a Roku HD1000, I've now set my
sites on a modified X-Box - turns out there is a HUGE community out there of
people who have figured out how to modify an Xbox to make it stream video
from a Linux box.

I'll let you know what happens!

Nick,

I do not know about problems using the Squeezebox over the Internet,
but the next release of Softsqueeze will fix a problem where the
connection to the slimserver is lost when it should not be. I think the
next release will be later this week, but I am a little short on spare
time at the moment.

Regards,
Richard
