Default AlienBBC

Hmmmm I know I'm not the only one but I can bet AlienBBC to pass the two command line tests fine and it will decode Virgin Radio but not BBC channels.

It just seems to retry connecting infinately.

I just uninstalled and installed the new beta with the new beta slimserver and this is no better. In fact worse because the Virgin stuff doesn't work now either!

I'm using the software squeezebox as I am currently evaluating my options.

Any ideas?

Fairy

Could you post the trace output as detailed on the website. Also can you tell us what os you are using?

Neil

Hmmm I couldn't see instructions so I ran this "C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\slim.exe" --d_plugin --d_source --d_remotestream --logfile log.txt

and got this:

DELETED see below

I'm sure this is wrong if so point me in the right direction.

This may be a firewall / Antivirus problem - can you disable them and see if it works ?

If you have Zonealarm installed - it must be uninstalled not just disabled as it affects an app called socketwrapper which is used by AlienBBC.

A summary of your set up would help
OS - Window XP ?
SB3 (judging by other posts)
Version of slimserver ? e.g. 6.2.x, 6.5
Version of AlienBBC ? e.g. 0.99, 1.00, 1.01
firewall details ?
Antivirus details ?

A number of suggestions.

1) using the web ui go into "server settings"/"file types"
and disable the following options
RTSP -> FLAC
RTSP -> MP3
WAV -> FLAC
WAV -> MP3

then try bbc again

2) to get more informative log files edit slimserver-convert.conf and change all references of #PIPE# to #DEBUGPIPE#

This will enable more log information from socketwrapper but the slimserver must be run from a cmd box as follows.

i) stop the server
ii) open a cmd windows [start, run, type "cmd" return]
iii) cd c:\Program Files\SlimServer\server
iv) slim --d_source

This should start the server up inside the text window. If you now try to play something you should see the same debug log plus those coming from mplayer. Control+C slimserver to stop and then cut and paste the log from the screen to a file.

The log may give more info regarding the problem.

3) Last suggestion which has worked for a number of people - stop slimserver and do a complete delete Alien plugin plus associated files and reinstall. Reboot system after reinstall.

Disabled as requested and debug turned on. On the soft client I managed to get a burst of some sort of clipped sound but only one snippet otherwise silence.

Here's a test run using the real client:

http://www.liquidizer.net/log.txt

OS - Window XP SP2
SB3 wireless, Black ;-)
Version of slimserver 6.2.1 (have tried 6.5 with 1.01 no difference)
Version of AlienBBC 1.00 ( as above)
firewall details : Linksys WRT54G (disabling firewall makes no difference). No software firewall used.
Antivirus details : ESET NOD32 2.50.25

Athlon 64 3200+
1Gb Corsair low latency DDR400
GeForce 6800GT
Diamondmax 10 300Gb HDD + DM9 160Gb HDD
Audigy2ZS

Can you try and replace socketwrapper by the one indicated in the post below and try BBC again. Save the original socketwrapper in case you need to revert.

Do you have any VPN client or similar (e.g. access office network from home) running on your PC ?

Nope. Not on this machine. I'll look at that socketwrapper and report back. Thanks.
