We should all express our dissatisfaction on twitter cc @Logitech and @LogitechUE

Anyway, I won't be going down this route. I suspect most people round here with SB kit won't be either. Why buy new kit that has less functionality? People who have SB equipment and have figured out how to install it and use it I suspect will continue to until the devices fail. People who found the devices too hard to use will have moved on by now to alternatives from other companies.
I think I now know what it means to get "thrown under the bus".Ikabob

Understandable, but we need an organised response - replacement plugins for LMS, an alternative forum ready to replace this one, if it goes down. A one or two finger response is not enough.
The 'open' nature of the SB system is a big plus compared with other systems. Let's focus on the advantages, not the disadvantages.Last edited by castalla; 2012-08-30, 00:26.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Comment

It's natural to feel negative about change, but I feel Logitech should be congratulated on the sensible direction they are taking (assuming the price comes down)
MB has said there is something coming which is not quite a touch, how about a headless streamer which can be attached to storage and has usb out, is that not a logical step forward ?Touch optimisations http://touchsgotrythm.blogspot.co.uk/Comment

The fact that they are not providing a upgrade path for users with a large base of devices is just a big F-u to those users and those users should respond in kind.Comment

You guys, members of this forum, are part of my every day life ! ;-) I've learnt so much reading posts/wikis...
We should now think of the future.
Will this forum continue to live? Should we now think to move to another place?
And why not dreaming a bit: Why not re-creating together our own Squeezebox (devices/server) from scratch and compete Sonos in that particular niche market... BTW, any news from Sean/Dean? ;-)
Great community here.
And I too wonder what happened to Sean and Dean. Must be especially sad for them to witness how the value of the Squeezebox line has been squandered.
It's not only that Logitech didn't understand the product and its market (they obviously didn't) but also that they were desperately chasing dreams of being more than a maker of keyboards and mice. Squeezebox may have had respectable sales... but certainly the grass must be greener over there where Google is going something with TV! Think of the gazillions of dollars! I mean, how could anyone go wrong by getting in bed with Google?! It's a shame.
Squeezeboxen: Sadly, I no longer own any Squeezebox
Controlled by: iPhone 5S running iPeng
Server: MSI Nettop 100 running VortexBox 2.2, LMS 7.7.2
Network: AT&T U-verse, Apple Time Capsule A1409, 5 Netgear Powerline AV200 Adapters
Music Sources: Local FLACs, Rhapsody, Pandora
Squeezebox is dead. Long live Squeezebox!

So... I am also the proud owner of two Palm Pre smartphones. The parallels of what happened at Hewlett Packard after they bought up Palm are pretty striking. The practice of wrecking great products by companies that fail to understand the true value of what they have would be devilishly funny if I wasn't a victim...twice.Beelink EQ 12 w/LMS Server 8.4 on Windows 11

the end of the road...so sad
Wow. This is a direction I did not see coming. I think I'd be less upset if they just pulled the plug instead of reinventing the one squeezebox that was wildly successful. Using the UE badge just seems silly.
As you can see from my Sig, I made a significant investment in squeezeboxes. As these die over time, they will have to be sadly replaced with some other technology.
Ben, thanks so much for the background info. It really provides insight to the cluelessness of management there. What a damn shame.
So the search begins for another solution. By the time I need to make a move due to booms or receivers dying, hopefully there will be an attractive alternative.
This is really depressing...Rich

It wouldn't have been quite so bad had this been a new version of the Boom. But to use the Ultimate Ears name to re-hash a 3 year old product that's not even stereo is just embarrassing.
I'm really glad I got my IEMs from UE before Logitech took the helm.Comment

I would not put much stock in "stereo" when the speakers are less than a foot apart and the listener is usually more than 5 feet away if not further. All the stereo does on such a device is provide louder output, stereo separation is non-existent.Comment

“Today’s fans have their music with them wherever they go – they carry it with them on their tablet or smartphone,” said Rory Dooley, Logitech senior vice president of music. “But no matter how or where you choose to store or access your favorite music, this lineup is the best way for you to experience it. Whether you want to be completely immersed in your favorite song, to share music with friends, or to discover new favorites, Logitech UE is the clear choice.”
This is complete nonsense, they don't offer a device in this UE range that works in the way I want to listen to music via my HiFi, for example. And they seem to have sold out to the Apple vision of low quality music reproduction.
