    Squeezebox V1 on eBay

Yes, an old V1 is available on eBay (from the UK), 23 pounds.

Is the V1 any good, or are there things you can't do with it that you can with later models?

In my opinion it is mostly a collector's item. See http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph...are_comparison for a comparison.

The main differences in my view are it (1) only supports 802.11b wifi, which means it _will_ slow down 802.11g or 802.11n networks, (2) only supports WEP for wifi security (not WPA), and (3) only support for 10Mbps ethernet. Also, I am not sure if the SB1 supports mysqueezebox.com, or even if it has native support for FLAC. I think the answer to both is no, but I'm not sure.

I understand you're just reporting what the listing says, but after seeing several SB1s for sale on eBay that are listed as SB2s, I don't place a whole lot of confidence in what the listings say.

This wiki article indicates that native FLAC support was not introduced until the SB2: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Squeezebox2. The lack of native FLAC support in the SB1 and SliMP3 may be invisible to many users because the server will transcode FLAC to MP3 when it sees the player is a SB1 or SliMP3 and cannot handle FLAC. So it will play your FLAC files, but only after transcoding to MP3.

SB1 could handle LPCM and WAV. Didn't Slimserver decode FLAC at the server? It's been 10 years since I used mine, but I don't think I was listening to MP3's!

Yes, I was wrong in saying that the server would transcode FLAC to MP3. It could do that, but alternatively it could transcode FLAC to WAV (or possibly to LPCM, the wiki is vague about that) and send that to the SB1.

I only have a SlimP3 and a Squeezebox 1. Both support mysqueezebox.com I'm pretty sure. I know I've used pandora on the SB1 and I think I've used it on the SlimP3 too.

Playing Pandora does not necessarily imply that it supports mysb.com. According to my admittedly fuzzy memory, and the wiki articles below, Pandora and other services will only work if you are connecting via LMS. You cannot make a direct connection to mysb.com with those devices.

Or maybe the wiki pages (and my memory) are out of date. Can you confirm that you can play Pandora if you turn off LMS?
