    Media Scan Problem

I have been using the Logitech Media Server & iTunes for 3-4 years. Currently running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893.

I have approximately 32,000 songs stored on an 3.0 TB external hard drive. I use iTunes to copy CD's to the hard drive in an uncompressed format. Until 3 weeks ago, I have never had an issue scanning for updated music files. Scans worked perfectly. Recently the scans have been hanging up consistently on the last 1,500 songs. The latest log is below.

In order to deternine whether there was a problem with the hard drive, I connected the drive to a laptop running Logitech Media Server version 7.7.1. I ran a scan on the laptop and everything scanned perfectly.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem? The scan log from earlier this evening doesn't appear to provide any clues.

    Me too

Exactly the same - trouble-free usage for five years and now unable to scan more than 1600 songs.

Happy that I'm not alone, but depressed as it kills off the product for me.

Turn up the logg level for all scan related things and have a go again ( advanced settings in the web UI )
Then it migth piont to a file when it crashes .
The scanner.log and server.log are actual txt files not just links in the web-UI .

If you want a second opinion you could zip it and attach here .

A clearing of LMS cache and a clear and rescan everything .

Turn of all real time antivirus apps while scanning

A sort of last resort strategy is scan parts of the library.

Scan a tiny part as one album or one artist , does it crash .

Now divide the main library in 2 parts ,scan each part if it crashes on just one of the halves good !

Then you can guess the rest , divide that crashing half in 2 and scan each part ,rinse and repeat...

    Edit.
And if you know that you tagging is a mess , sorry to say but never version are a bit more sensitive to such issues

    Back on track

Thanks for the advice, and having checked some other strings, I worked out that the cause of my problem was two problematic files containing failed downloads. Once removed from the library, media scan was back to normal.

    We live and learn..........

Yes good catch, in general never dowload to the directory that LMS uses (or that any other program uses ).

My practice if I download content (legaly or elsewhere) i dl to a temp folder ,when the dl is complete if carefully check the tagging with mp3tag and puddle tag remove all bs files that may come with it .
Note that no dowload source legal or otherwise can tag there is always something to fix in the filet ags, so just dropping the new album in the directory and hope for the best is the same as saying "I want problems ,give it to me "

Edit. I just say this as every tread have a 1/100 poster/lurker ratio (or more ) ,so there are others apart from the posters that benefit from the information .
So writing back and tell us what solved the problem is the good way to end a tread .
