Can LMS be set to convert all falc files into PCM / WAV format for sending to your player ? Currently I have a Sony Blu Ray player in the other room which can access the LMS server as it is DNLA compatiable but Sony do not support Flac so although it can see all the music files it will not play them as it comes up with an error message that this is a bad or unsupported file. Is there any way to get the LMS using the lap top that is running the server to convert the files into straight PCM / WAV files that the Sony will be able to play ?
Apologies I had put this query in the LMS Forum Thread as well but was advised that this section might be more appropriate. Can I also please state that I do not have a great knowledge of using the LMS or SBT so if answers could be as simple step be step instructions this would help me.

Presume that after 125 views and no replies that is is obviously much more difficult than I thought. Will have to consider getting another Media Servier CLient to use alongside LMS for my other DNLA kit/

search the forum for whitebear. This is one approach for using LMS with DLNA devices that seems to work better than the official DLNA server. And in general, one can have FLAC files decoded on the server to PCM by changing the settings in LMS > SETTINGS > ADVANCED > File Types. Not sure if this also works when LMS is being used as a DLNA server.
Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)
Office: Win7(64) > LMS 7.7.2 > SqueezePlay
Spares: VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER
Controllers: iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop

Before you get too far with this it may be a good idea to find out at what level the Sony is declaring the file type as unsupported. That is, is the Sony looking at the contents of the file, or only the name? If it's the latter, then I don't think what you're proposing will work.
Here's a test you can do. Take a copy of a WAV file, rename it to have a .flac extension, and put it in your music library. Then try to play it with the Sony. If the Sony won't play it then you're unlikely to have much luck with the server-side decoding either, because the Sony will still be looking at the FLAC files, not knowing that they will be served up as something else.
And if you want to see a picture of what the LMS settings should look like to send PCM from the server, take a look at section 1.6 of soundcheck's TT 3.0 blog article: http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com...x-30.html#more

LMS should already transcode FLAC to PCM for DLNA clients, no extra work required... I know it works for my PS3.

Try out Whitebear. The middleware that joins the two worlds of:
1. UPnP/DLNA media clients and media players, and,
2. Squeezebox Server and Squeeze Players
Download it for free here: http://www.whitebear.ch/mediaserver
