Hello.
Sorry if this have been covered before. I did search.
I have an SB Touch with the Triode "enhanced digital out" installed. I also will soon have a Metrum Octave DAC attached via coax out.
Now, I would like to know if I can make Logitech Media Server upsample all my music to either 176/24 or 192/24 prior to sending it via cabled ethernet to my SB Touch. This is because reports claim that the Metrum Octave DAC sounds better when fed upsampled music.
Alternatively, I know that I could use a USB to SPDIF-converter (with upsampling) to do this but I like to keep things simple (and inexpensive).
Any thoughts?
Best wishes,
Peter

Can you make Logitech Media Server upsample to 176/24 or 192/24?

I don't think there is any built in configuration which does this, but you could probably create your own configuration to do this using sox if you build a custom-convert.conf file. If you are happy reading the sox manual and creating configuration files then this may work for you..

Triode.
Thanks for the quick answer (and the app!).
Unfortunately Linux code is far from my strongest point. Any other inputs on this?
Best wishes,

These threads have some clues:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...convert.config
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...own-to-CD-rate
Going to be something like "-b 24 -r 192000"
You're probably going to want LMS running on a PC rather than a NAS to make this work reliably.

I see that most comments about using a Hardware USB to SPDIF converter come from the computer playback crowd. I use a Synology NAS connected to my SB Touch and I would like to make that work if possible.
----
Yesterday I had an interesting session after having installed Triode's app: I got sound from the Metrum on both 176 and 192 /24 but at superslow speeds - it is very scary, I must admit, to hear the intro to "Love in Vain" by The Rolling Stones in super slow mode. I think I have to change some settings in the Logitech Music Server console. Previously I made changes there according to what Soundcheck adviced when using his script on the SB Touch. So ... does anyone know what setting I should use in order to set up the Logitech Music Server for optimal use with Triode's app?
I will go have a look now (and a Google search).

I changed the FLAC settings from native to sox and now the 176/24 "Love in Vain" plays through the Metrum as I speak. Now for 192/24 which isn't supported by the Metrum Dac - although some users have reported that their Metrum Octave DAC will lock on 192/24 material.
Let's try Antonio Forcione & Sabine Sciubbos's "Meet Me in London" track "Caruso" ............... NO LUCK. Which means that I am limited to 176/24.
It does not matter much, but it means that I will have all my 192/24 files (all 9 of them ...) downsampled - most likely I will convert them and store them on the server @ 96/24. There is also the chance that a Hardware USB to SPDIF converter like JKenny's Hiface MK. II will enable 192/24 playback and improve SQ because it reclocks the audio stream (II believe).
That is all for today's testing. Now its on to some music!

Anyone game for writing the full upsampling code?

Inguz and SB Touch and Synology NAS?
I have no idea if Inguz may be made relevant for the purpose of making SB Touch export upsampled audio to my Metrum DAC.
I would greatly appreciate an answer - Phil Leigh or Bob(ertuk) may be the persons that could answer this shortly and sweetly.

Peter
