Hi there,
I am a long standing squeezebox fan and also a big fan of Naim equipment. My current main listening set-up is:-
Transporter into Naim NAC102, with HiCap/NAPSC power via SNAXO (also powered by a HiCap) into two NAP250's powering Naim SBL's actively. I am very happy with the sound, but am interested in other views of the transporter now compared to say a SBT into a Audiolab M-DAC.
The cost of such a set-up is not that different to the cost of the Transporter, so would be interested in your expert opinion and/or if anyone else has gone this way.
Thanks
David

Is my Transporter's time up?

On Friday I listened to a custom DAC that employs the Sabre chip in a friend's setup - we both own TP's and I've listened to his setup on numerous occasions. The TP was used as transport and I was blown away by the soundstage and the detail resolved by this DAC. I'd already switched to a PS Audio Digital Link III, but will definitely be moving to this custom DAC when the design is finalised. The TP is no slouch, but you can do better these days where DACs are concerned. It makes for a great transport if you're not planning on playing back > 24/96 otherwise a Touch with Triode's EDO applet allows for up to 24/192 passthrough.

I have the SBT going into a M-dac , then straight to 2 x audiolab 250w monoblocks and then to a set of Canton Ergo 120 DC speakers
I have also had the transporter and sold it after getting my my first SBT..I replaced my Cullen modded PS audio III with the MDAC.
What do you want to know about the setup ?

I HATED the TP's DAC, it is very cold and sterile to me , I had it in a headphone system and in my main system and really didn't shine on any music. I was already on a DAC quest before I sold it.
The MDAC is very good , however it has 7 filters you can use which all change the sound so there is a choice of sonic signatures , the overriding qualities are that it presents with a huge soundstage and a sense of "clarity" , without being etched or hyperdetailed , bass is very good with lots of extension and control .
I think my TP/MDAC combo at 1/2 the price I paid for the TP is better sounding and offers me more utility.SBT/Z-sys RDP1 digital Pre/Meridian DSP5500's Or TP/DSP5500's
