Gosh, I really appreciate the posts but I do not have a clue about ANYTHING
you guys are talking about. I thought I signed up for the Beginners forum.
It must be my mistake. Sorry.

Ok moving too fast.
My belief is that the Touch is the best option for you - especially when you want to listen to hires music.
The Touch sounds very good on its own, much better than many CDplayers etc out there.
BUT
should you have the feeling (after you listened to it) that something is missing, or could be better - then you could get yourself a DAC
I have the Schiit Bifrost and am extremely happy with it. http://schiit.com/cart/index.php?mai...&products_id=7
The two devices together would be cheaper than the Transporter.Last edited by Squeezemenicely; 2012-08-05 at 04:25.

Your first post tells me that you have not quite grasped the idea of a music server.
The Squeezebox devices you have mentioned are not music servers.
They are network music players.
The Touch can run a limited capability version of server, but it's exactly that, limited in capability, and slow with it.
Your best option is to run server on a computer or a NAS with superior processing capability.
I use a Zyxel NSA310 NAS, and it does the job well.
I the past I ran server on Windows based machines.
The Zyxel uses a lot less electricity to run than the Windows machines, which is why I now stick to using it for server duties
As far as players go, I'd suggest the Touch every time.
The Transporter is end of line, and the Lite version has just disappeared from the Logitech site - doubtless down to Logitech's inability to support warranty claims for the devices (there's a thread elsewhere on the site about it).
The Touch can support 24/96 files natively, and with Triode's EDO applet installed can output 24/192 files into an external DAC - obviously the DAC needs to be able to receive a 24/192 from an external player.

Synology does have a maintained and supported easy to install LMS package which is a big + .
In theory one could install LMS on most powerfull enough NAS boxes, but it is not always easy to do .
IMO if your going the NAS route get a fast one with as much CPU and ram as possible .
Best options are NAS based on x86 CPU atom and similar , then all transcoding helper apps are much more likely to run and web- UI will be fast and scanning will also be faster .--------------------------------------------------------------------

I was a bit confused on this... so I checked with Integra... If I use Integra's balanced inputs... this will bypass Integras DAC but this is really for a 2 channel system... I have a 5.2 system... I can use my 2 fronts... but honestly, why would I want to use the bass of my 2 fronts when the bass from my JL Audio are so much better... ? When ever I play music with only my 2 fronts... I really can't feel the bass.. but when I select DSP "stereo" (2 fronts and my subs)... ufff... night and day.
So in this scenario, I don't know if it makes any sense for me to try out a DAC if I have a HT system... Since I would want to use my separate subs ?
I also checked with Empirical Audio about their Synch Mesh... Although this has a digitial output... this is really for a 2 channel system as well...
In reality, I don't think I have bad floor standing speakers (B&W CM8's) but when I don't use my separate JL 12" SUB's... I really don't feel the same bass... I mean, I can't compare base from JL to my speakers... So I suppose I'll just need to connect the Touch directly to my Integra ?

+1 yes use the digital out .
Thats what i do I have an 5.1 setup with subwoofer and further all my speakers are digital so i got even more reason not to use the analog out .
IMHO with modern HT gear an analog sources is an anachronism , the analog inputs are for legacy support of old whs and tape decks or vinyl .--------------------------------------------------------------------
