Did you try a Xilinx reset? I had this problem a while back and it fixed it.

    1. Unplug Boom.
    2. Hold down 1.
    3. While holding down 1, plug Boom back in and wait for it to reboot. Once it comes up and says resetting Xilinx you can let go of 1.

Thanks for all the replies. I have done just about all of these things (and got a lot better familiarity with the Boom) and some things did seem to work at getting it going.. for another while.

It now seems I may have the answer, unique to a self-inflicted injury to my Boom's PS !

My son was here tonight, he's a lot more familiar with my collection of Slim devices than I am. He noticed some odd things whilst he was fiddling at different bits. It seems very probable that a lead-shortening job I did some months ago has been causing a minute short!

He feels that its the answer, having re-made and insulated the joint. Its been playing great for some hours now and looking good.

I'm cautiously optimistic, I thought sure at one point the amp was gone but I found a PDF which shows all about the Boom and I see it has separate amps so something should still have been working.

I also discovered it has a 2 year guarantee with one week to expiry, dilemma is that they're not made any more so don't know how they'd handle this claim if tonight's repair isn't the answer, I don't want to lose it!

I'll post back in a day or two, thanks again to all.

They may still (and likely do) have Boom's for warranty exchange purposes. Also don't forget the strong possibility that your credit card likely offers a Buyers Protection feature that usually extends the mfr warranty up to one year, so you might have an additional year (3 years now). Though if using the credit card warranty it would likely be just a refund of the original purchase price as Logitech does not repair/exchange out of warranty older players.

The PS repair improved reliability but I was still getting some crashes. So I set up a folder on a dedicated QNAP 119 II and then went through every 'CD' folder via explorer. This turned up a few CDs that had ripped as 40000 instead of 44100! Also some 24/96 files that I thought I had weeded out were in there. Yesterday the Boom played for 6+ hours without a problem, so well pleased.

I only stopped it to do a further rescan and will run it today again. Only odd thing is the Library is showing nearly double the music files it should, how do I clear that?

Find the LMS Cache folder on your NAS and delete it's contents, reboot LMS. Also make sure any Playlists are in a separate folder from your music library.
Then do a Clear & rescan.

Thanks Toby10, took me a while to locate the cache. My son had set LMS up and had to use a little app he found on the QNAP forum to allow it to operate on the QNAP.

The cache doesn't show but he has now set me up with a shortcut to it and I'm glad to report Boom is now working great!

Thanks for all the help and support, I'd hate to lose the Boom.
