BBC radio "not available" - even though I'm in UK !

    Hi

I usually wake up to the soothing tones of Radio 4 at 6.40.

This morning I kept getting a "this part of the program is not available due to rights restrictions" or something like that.

I sometimes get this with Radio 5 Live Sports, but never with R4 before.

Any ideas as to cause ?

    thanks

    Same problem here!!

I had the same problem with Radio 2 this morning at 07:00 and 07:50. Is this anything to do with the programs being transmitted from the studio in the olympic village?? And is there a solution? All my radio listening throughout the day is via the internet and Squeezebox Classic so I hope this isn't going to be a problem for the next four weeks!!

UPDATE: R2 is working fine now (10:50), but is this going to recur?

"rights restrictions" are usually because player is connected to mysb.com and bbc thinks the player is outside the uk because the mysb.com server which initially contacts bbc is outside the uk. There are mechanisms in place to stop this but every so often the BBC seems to ignore them.

Same problem with Radio 4 here in France via LMS or MySB. But oddly, seems only to affect news programs - Today, World at One, PM etc - not the rest of the output. So that's not likely to purely a server location issue. And the "rights restrictions" messages started the morning the Olympics started.....

Also, even going to the BBC R4 website on my PC produces the same problem...

    Damn annoying!

Small consolation - the "Listen Again" for the programmes still seem to work- at least for Friday.

At a guess because these programmes are live perhaps BBC are being v. cautious in case some live broadcast from Olympics are included in the programmes and they won't know until program has ended.

    edit:
Proper BBC explanation with comments from a lot of similarly annoyed listeners

The problem is broadcasting some programmes from Olympics Park studios and so the rights restricitons apply - regardless of content.

Quite astonishing that the BBC can do a commercial deal with the Olympics under which it agrees to restrict its non-Olympic news coverage.

They didn't agree to restrict their non-Olympics news coverage. They simply decided they don't have the resources to edit out the Olympics coverage from most of their news output.

They are going to do this editing for most editions of the Today programme, but they've opted not to do it for all of the news output.

And yes, it sucks that access to the Olympics broadcasts is restricted this way, seems totally against the spirit of the whole endeavour
Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ?
I SAID ALL OF THEM !
