LMS 7.7.3/7.8.0 FreeBSD: no pictures or videos: expected?

I've been messing around with various builds of LMS and versions of FreeBSD recently and hit a showstopper.

None of the LMS for FreeBSD packages I've tested show any videos or pictures following a scan. The logs show that the folders are scanned, but the totals on the information page are zero. I assumed this was something wrong with my own builds, until I downloaded and tested an LMS 7.7.3 nightly on a suitable (perl 5.8, FreeBSD 7.X) system and got the same result.

A Linux LMS 7.7.2 scans the pictures and videos, and almost manages to display them on my TV.

Is the FreeBSD version of LMS crippled by design, or just broken?
