Playback of playlists limited to first 500 tracks on LMS 7.7.2

I had to install LMS 7.7.2 to try to revive my music system after an older release of SqueezeServer stopped working after the last automatic update to Windows Vista (I should really get around to updating that system to Windows 7, sometime...). LMS installed OK and scanned all my music, and at first I thought, great, all working!

Then I noticed that when I play any playlist, it's only randomizing within the first 500 tracks, no matter how long the playlist. I had started with a playlist that has 7752 tracks, so it was particularly noticeable that I was getting lots of bands starting with "A" or "B," but nothing later in the alphabet. I had hoped that perhaps the counter display was just wrong, but no such luck.

When I select the playlists on the left pane, it correctly reports the full number of tracks, and I can navigate to the end of the playlist and see all the music.

I tried other playlists, they all do the same thing. I looked for some new setting that didn't exist before, that would cause this behavior, but could not find one.

There are two solutions:
1. Change the setting: "LMS Settings/Advanced/Performance/Maximum Playlist Length"
or
2. Use the third party Dynamic Playlist plugin that will load the playlist bit by bit as it's played. After installing Dynamic Playlist plugin need to play the playlist through the "My Music/Dynamic Playlists" menu to make it use this functionality.

Generally LMS doesn't perform optimal with large playlists, that's why the setting exist and is set to 500 by default.
Dynamic Playlist plugin gets around this problem by loading the playlist bit by bit as it's played, which results in that the current playlist is always fairly small as it only contains a few tracks before and a few tracks after the one currently playing.

I've been running large playlists in SqueezeServer for years (on a dedicated Windows machine with 4G of RAM), so set the limit to 10,000. Works great. Thanks!

Thanks for mentioning this. I have Frank Sinatra's The Voice box out of Europe with 46 CD's, and at 760 tracks I couldn't add them all as one playlist to listen to the whole box. It truncated at 500. Now I've changed the limit to 1,000 so it should be fine (server has 24 GB of RAM so I'm not worrried about memory).

I am having a similar problem, but it is only limited to Dynamic Playlists.

When I play a dynamic playlist it will only queue up 50 songs at a time. I have saved a test dynamic playlist that has a ~120 songs as a static playlist. If I play the static playlist it plays all 120 songs. If I play the dynamic playlist it will only play 50....

I am sure I am missing something simple. I have already checked the advanced/performance/max playlist setting and it is fine....

Any help appreciated!

Make sure the "Add new items when old ones finish" option which is shown at the bottom of the Dynamic Playlists menu in the LMS web interface is activated.
