Scanning for new and changed files deletes nearly(?) everything from the database

    Hi all,
I hope someone can help with this one that has been annoying me for a while. The usual apologies if there's already an answer to this that I failed to find.

Full scans ("clear library and rescan everything") seems to work fine.

If I start a "look for new and changed media files" scan then all starts off well, with the scanner discovering any new music, but the final step is "Removing deleted files : (x of y)" where y is nearly the total number of tracks. I'm currently letting it run to see if there's any pattern to the files it doesn't remove from the database but this will take a few hours.

Can anyone shed some light on why LMS might be doing this, and more usefully what I can do to fix it?

As background, I'm running LMS 7.7.2 r33893 (win xp/03/08/vista/7) on WHSv1, but I'm pretty sure this problem existed before I installed this version of LMS. Media folders are defined as UNC paths (i.e. \\server\path\ format). I have also tried clearing the database before a full rescan without success. The server log file fills up with "Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::deleted (565) Handling deleted audio file file:\\\\server\\path..." messages but I can't spot the reason.

    Thanks in advance.

Is your music folder actually on the WHS box? If so it kind of sticks in the back of my mind that I had a problem with UNC paths on my WHS box so I changed to <drive>:\path and it fixed it.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, music folders are on the WHS box. I could try using d:\shares\music\..., but surely it should work using UNCs (and it used to).
WHSv1 gives you some warnings against accessing files other than through the network shares but IIUC reading files directly should be OK. If there are no other ideas I'll give that a go.
Still waiting for the deleting stage to run - it seems to take much longer than doing a fresh scan.
