I have LMS running on my Synology DS 412+.
I want to have LMS look in several locations for music files. Some of these are on my DS 412+ and some are on another NAS. So, I created links for each of the locations and put the shortcuts in a folder. I have selected that folder as the media folder location. However, when I try to select an album on my Touch via "music folder" all that shows up are the 4 .lnk files. I cannot navigate to any of the music which those shortcuts point to.
My question is, how do I properly create shortcuts to folders that contain music so LMS will find it? I don't want to be limited to having all my music on the DS. Some of it is and some of it isn't.

How did you create these "links"?
if you want to include folders stored on another NAS you have to mount these folders.
- You can mount then in your music-directory, then everything will be added automaticly.
- You can mount them outside your music-directory, then you have to add them as additional directories in LMS or use symlinks in your music-directoryCurrent setup:
Server:
LMS7.7.3 nightly on Diskstation DS413 via SSODSmod 4.14
LMS7.7.3 nightly on Diskstation DS409 via SSODSmod 4.14
LMS7.7.3 nightly on Diskstation DS407 via SSODSmod 4.9.1

I created them in windows explorer. The property of each of the links looks like "\Dead_server\media".
I am not sure what you mean by "mount" I have a second version of LMS running on a WHS PC. In the "music" subfolder it has these same links and LMS can find all the music files. I guess the difference is that the Synology NAS isn't a windows box so it can't translate the links?if you want to include folders stored on another NAS you have to mount these folders.

Can you provide me with specific steps on how to create the links or mount them, as you said, to point to an external NAS?
Thanks.Modwright Platinum Signature Truth modified Transporter>Cary SLP-05> 2 Cary SA 500.1 Mono Blocks> Vandersteen 5A

It's not as easy as you think. windows link-files are useless for linux-based systems.
I never tried to mount windows shares to my box, only linux nfs.
- You have to access your synology from command line interface via ssh or telnet.
- Then create a direktory for mounting your windows share: go to your music directory (for example cd /volume1/public/Music) an type "mkdir DirName" (DirName is the Name for the new directory). Then try to mount your share:
mount -t cifs //winserver/share -o username=user,password=YourPassword /volume1/public/Music/DirName
now you should go into this directory and see your files.
You can easily search the web for:
mount windows share linux
You will find many tutorials.
Try it on your own risk.Current setup:
