LMS v7.7.2/Windows XP SP3
Can someone tell me exactly what LMS considers a "changed" media file? I went in and changed genres on a few albums, then ran "Look For New And Changed Media Files".
The genre changes did not get detected or updated. Then I ran "Clear Library And Rescan Everything" and they were in fact detected and updated.
Does the scanner store and use file modified times in the database for comparison?
If not, what is the criteria?
Thanks!

Look For New And Changed Media Files Issue?

LMS does indeed use the file modification times for determining what is "new and changed." However, many tagging programs have a setting to choose whether or not the file modification time should be changed when tags are edited. Some people, such as yourself, may want to have the mtime changed so that a "new and changed" scan will work as expected. Other people prefer not to have the mtime changed, so that tag edits on old albums do not cause those albums to suddenly appear in the "New Music" screen (which also depends on mtime). Check the settings on your tagging program and adjust as needed.

I use Mp3tag and the option to "preserve file modification time when saving tags" is definitely not checked, specifically for this reason. Is it possible that even though the scanner detected a change in time/date, it does not re-read all of the metadata/tags on a "look for new and changed" scan to save time?
