Using LMS and when playing high rez flac files, shows 4586 Kbps VBR ( Converted to 1411Kbps Pcm) Why is it doing this conversion? Thanks for any advice.

it is well known that the reported bitrate on FLAC files by SbS/LMS is wrong (just some calculation estimate). Search the forums to see lots of discussion on this. Many's preference is that it just didn't report anything, as this would prevent the very question you ask from being asked about once every 6 months. ;-)

The rate reported is always wrong , but the conversion is done very well by SoX .
It is done for three reasons .
The player, does not support the file natively , ie if you have an SB2/3/classic reciever or boom and play a 24/96 file when the player supports only 24/48 or a 24/192 file on on a transporter or Touch who can handle up to 24/96 .
This also includes down sampling .
or you have turned of the the native playback of flac and forcing the server to send PCM .
Then all flac files are transcoded to PCM but no downsampling unless the rate is to high .
There is some popular mythology that WAV sounds better on a squeezebox ( this is pure bs ).
The third reason does not apply to OP's question as he was using Flac files already .
But other lossles formats like WAV , alac etc is transcoded to flac with the default settings, this is to conserve bandwith as many uses wifi .--------------------------------------------------------------------

My concern is not so much about the actual numbers, I am unable to play 192/24 bit files and thought that perhaps there was a bottle neck created. The file played before, now it makes some odd strange noises as if trying to play but no music coming out. I do have EDO, as well as TT3.0 and am able to play 96/24, but not 192/24.

aha. different issue. Might try posting in the EDO thread and some users of EDO and TT3 can chime in. This is definitely beyond a "beginner's thread" question, as most people, particularly beginners, are not using EDO or TT3.

And are you using USB out of the TOUCH to drive your DAC or S/PDIF out to your DAC. When you post at the above thread, you should probably identify exactly the DAC you are using and how connected to it, as this matters in diagnosing.Last edited by garym; 2012-07-10 at 13:57.
