What's happened to the version numbers for a couple of the recent 7.8 firmware builds? These aren't correct, are they?
Looking in the cache/updates folder for my LMS 7.8 server, I see that LMS downloaded fab4_7.8.0_r16734.bin on 12-Jun. So if the version numbers are off, it didn't just happen today. The firmware on my Touch claims to be 7.8.0 r9702.
This is the Touch's fab4.version file:Code:fab4.bin 09-Jul-2012 04:13 33M fab4.version 09-Jul-2012 04:13 126 fab4.version.sha 09-Jul-2012 04:14 55 fab4_7.8.0_r16734.bin 09-Jul-2012 04:13 33M fab4_7.8.0_r16734.bin.sha 09-Jul-2012 04:14 64 jive.bin 09-Jul-2012 04:26 14M jive.version 09-Jul-2012 04:26 126 jive.version.sha 09-Jul-2012 04:27 55 jive_7.8.0_r16734.bin 09-Jul-2012 04:26 14M jive_7.8.0_r16734.bin.sha 09-Jul-2012 04:27 64

Did you try to update the Touch to 7.8 r16734 manually?
i.e. from the Touch Advanced menu...
There was a version which didn't seem to auto update, but I can't remember which one.
Maybe it's confused with the new 'numbering' system.LMS Version: 7.8
