    Inexpensive Android Tablet as controller?

Is anyone using an inexpensive Android tablet as a SB controller?

If so, what is your experience?

I use an Android pad, but not a particularly inexpensive one. Anyway, SqueezeCommander is obviously designed for phones, not tablets, but it works OK. Cover art is large. I tried to test the Logitech app now, but I'm not at the same subnet as my LMS, so it insisted that I enter my mysqueezebox.com creditentials, which I don't bother to do, because I don't use mysb.com. Does anyone know if there are other Android apps for controlling Squeezeboxes, designed for pads?

It works ... but as with all these androidy thingies, the power drain means you'll probably spend more time recharging than controlling!

I use a Kindle Fire with SqueezeCommander and have had very good results. Because SC was designed as a phone app, the fonts can be a bit small. OTOH, the large album art is really nice. SC has Wake-on-LAN capability which (I believe) the official Logitech app does not so that is helpful. If you have multiple Squeezeboxes, it is very easy to switch among them, power them on/off, and select whatever you want to play on each. An issue with SC is that the developer has disappeared for some time. At the time of his vanishing he reported he was working on a tablet version but it never arrived.

Using my KF primarily for controlling my Squeezeboxes, with occasional email checking and web browsing, I get well over a week on a charge using a wifi controller app. Keeping the wifi off when the KF is in standby mode is the key to battery life but is not the default setting out of the box. You need to shut it down completely or install a third-party app to turn off wifi during standby.

(BTW, because of its closed system installing third-party apps on the KF can be a problem. In order to install the wifi controller app mentioned above I had to root the KF in order to get access to the Google app store. A generic Android tablet should not have this problem.)

And $25 promotional credit in the Google Play store will pay for any apps you might need.

I use multiple android tablets and an android phone. Much easier to use than the SB Controller.

For apps, I prefer Squeezecommander. The Logitech app is also not bad and has the benefit that on tablets is uses a split screen display when in landscape orientation.
