Squeezeplay has been fine for me when installed on the same PC as Squeezebox server. If I install on a different PC from Squeezebox server it won't connect to the server, however from the Squeezebox server WebUI I can play to the Squeezeplay on the other PC. Go figure??

Another data point i use sp on my windows laptop. Lms is running on separate vortexbox appliance. No issues on my end.
    Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
    Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)
    Office: Win7(64) > LMS 7.7.2 > SqueezePlay
    Spares: VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER
Controllers: iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop
Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Tagging - mp3tag, Spotify

Same here - whenever I use SP it is on a different machine from the server.

Ok. Got into Squeezeplay after another long wait when I chose my language initially. I obviously wasn't patient enough before.

So now I have both Softsqueeze and Squeezeplayer available as software players alongside my hardware ones...magic. The only slight annoyance is that both s/w players lose focus in the Web Control after a short time. I'll fire up Squeezeplay for instance and while I'm browsing my playlist Web Control will decide I need to look at what a hardware player is doing...ie nothing. This happens when I'm using Softsqueeze too.

Why are you using web control. Squeezeplay itself is a better controller.
    Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
    Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)

    Fair question.

Partly because I'd discounted the option of using a software player's GUI because the Softsqueeze interface is so clunky, but also because the Web Control seems much more functional, searching for example...or rating which I don't seem to be able to do on SP.

I've seen this with hardware-only players as well. In that case I've resolved it by clearing my web browser cookies and cache. I think the cookies are the real culprit, but it can't hurt to clear the browser cache as well. Worth a try.

I don't think so. I find the web UI much more adequate on a real computer. SP shows soooo little information at a time.

Thanks for that. I tried clearing the just the cookies first...which didn't seem to work initially but did after I restarted the browser.
