I'm running 7.7.1 on a Mac Mini with OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), and it's flawless. I must get around to putting Lion on it before Mountain Lion comes out!
My Mac Mini isn't the latest version though - Core 2 Duo circa 2010 I think. Not quite the data point you were after perhaps.

Thanks. Hard to think the newer one would not work with lms if your does.

What's the Snow Leopard -> Lion -> Mtn. Lion issue? Is it because you want Lion and want to avoid Mtn. Lion?
I've got Lion on my 2011 Mac mini and I have to say I'm deeply underwhelmed. I was hoping that Mtn Lion would fix a lot of what I find annoying about Lion. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part. What have other folks heard?

That was just a flippant comment, to highlight how slow I've been to upgrade - I've not followed the developments with Mountain Lion, so I can't say whether it'll be better than Lion or not. I've put Lion on my MacBook though, and I have to say I've also been underwhelmed by it. The removal of the four-finger swipe seemed almost spiteful on Apple's part - it really annoyed me having to adjust the way I work just because they couldn't leave that gesture as an option. I think it was part of the move to merge/harmonise OSX and iOS, so I can't help feeling there'll be further adjustments needed when Mountain Lion arrives.

mtn lion won't run on older mac minis, like my wifes. (circa 2007 maybe?)
whenever the new mac mini comes out, i'll probably get her that. i figure a new mac mini every 5 years or so is sensible.

My MINI is 5-6 years old and has NEVER been turned off since it was setup as my music server. It runs flawlessly, even though I'm stuck on Leopard. I can only imagine that the newer ones will SCREAM!
If I were to replace mine, I'd get the server version which would allow me to do other things within the house.

Mountain Lion Gold Master
Now that Mountain Lion has gone Gold Master, has anyone in the know installed it?
Any issues with LMS?

We've installed LMS on the latest beta (pre Gold Master), and it's running
just fine. Due to the new security rules requiring installers to be signed
the installation is a bit awkward. But once you've done that you should be
fine. And we're working on a new more standards compliant installer which
should resolve that problem at some later stage too.

I've got the current generation mini running LMS. I added in an SSD drive but the music library is on an external FW800 drive. I have a fairly large music library but the server is *very* responsive. Previous hardware I'd used would slow to a crawl when adding 50 tracks to a playlist, but this machine is nearly instantaneous. Ipeng on the iPad or iPhone is also very responsive, as is the web interface.
I am very pleased with this setup.
If you want to be able to run 10.7 you should hurry up and buy the machine now, since I suspect after ML is released new machines will come with it pre-installed and you may not be able to install Lion if that's what you prefer.
