LMS - Look for new or and changed media files

I'm using the LMS and its previous versions for some time now, but I've never come across the issue that files in my library weren't found. More strange that these files have been in the library for some time! I've tried out several things: Moved the folder, rewrote the tags of the files, but nothing is successful. Even a deletion of and rebuild of the LMS library didn't solve the problem. The files are ordinary MP3s. Any idea how to solve this issue?

maybe their file permissions ? SSH to your NAS and check it out , the files them self or the folder they are in .

An indicator of a permision problem would be if the "music folder" menu is unable to see them .

Thanx Mynb, that was the reason. I don't know how and why the respective files had a user 1000 and group 1000 assigned. Both doesn't exist on my NAS.

I'we seen that it can happen on rare occasions when transfering, samba is not perfect . Owner and creators can be inherited in strange ways when moving around files ?

Btw The user and group can be from your computer so that may not be strange , but I've seen glitches where the file is not readable when transferred over samba even if it was on the pc

I usually makes the music file readable for all then user and group would not matter, so I usually now and then go to the top of music folder and recursively makes all files readable .

LMS Scanning and showing .wav files in playlists

I need some help with my LMS. I bought the Squeezebox Touch last summer to enjoy my digitized music collection without having to burn cd's all the time. I use ITunes and have about 33000 tracks so far. I prefer .wav files for the music quality but also have a lot of .mp3 files. The LMS is reading 100% of the files in the ITunes library (33000 tracks) but all of the .wav files are not showing up in the playlists on the Touch. The playlist appears empty. The Touch does have .wav files from previous scans, but all new .wav files for the past several months are not being scanned and shown in the Touch playlist menu. The playlist is shown but it is empty (now music files) For .mp3 files, the LMS reads and shows all tracks. I've read some threads in this forum about this problem but don't know what I need to do to figure out what my problem is vis a vis .wav files. Can someone provide a way for me to figure out what my problem is and then how to fix it? Is it a tagging issue? If so, I need a program to allow me to see the current tags on the tracks and then how to can them> is it a LMS configuration problem where I can toggle a setting to allow more .wav files to be read. Appreciate any and all help.

I have a 1.66 Mac Mini running Snow Leopard (I Plan to upgrade to a new IMac in the fall) with a Linksys router and a Squeezebox Touch running the current verions of LMS version 7.7.2

probably something with tags, as itunes keeps tags for WAV files in its own database rather than adding any tags to the WAV files themselves. And there is no standard tagging scheme for wav files. Although I'm surprised it doesn't show up when you look at the "browse music folder" access within LMS menu. this should see the files. And you may need to do a "clear and rescan" vs "check for new and changed."

None of my business, but your life would be easier (and there would be NO DIFFERENCE in sound quality, as confirmed by many double-blind tests) if you simply converted the WAV files to FLAC files, tagged them properly. Or if you want itunes compatible lossless files, simply use ALAC instead of FLAC.

    LMS look for .wav files

I'm always open to new and better solutions. The issue is ITunes doesn't read FLAC files and I use my IPod in the car for music. So, if I transitioned all the .wav files to ALAC, will that solve the problem? Will I need to check the tags on the files before I convert to ALAC? About half of my 33000 tracks are .wav, so I need to determine the appropriate corrective action before investing the time to change 50% of my tracks

I give a few cds's of music to friends, and I am concerned if my music library is ALAC then burned to a cd, will they be able to play the cd in their cd player or in the car?

If it's a tagging issue, I know nothing about tags and tagging. What program do I need in order to review and change (if needed) the tags on the current .wav files, for a MAC?

I just cleared and rescanned the entire LMS library with no different results, i.e. some of the .wav files were read, but it seems the further down the alphabet it scans, the .wav files are not being captured.

In the LMS, when I "browse music folder", it comes back with two files, infobrowser.opml and infobrowser.opml.backup. Should the same playlists as are in the Itunes music folder be showing up here? Since they area not, should I select my ITunes Music folder instead? Any down side to doing so?

    Thanks again for all assistance

    LMS looking for .wav files

Well, I figured out what's going on but not why it's going on. In addition to the information above, I am also using IPeng on my IPad to navigate the SB Touch since it's much easier. My previous comments and all efforts to date with the SB Touch were focused on the "Artists" category of the IPeng categories (artists, albums, genres, years, new music, random mix, music folder, and playlists). After clearing the cache and clearing and rescanning the library, it was no different (i.e.; .most .wav files were not showing up, there was no content in that "Artists" CD file).

But, when I selected the "Playlist" category or the "Music Folder" Category, 100% of the .wav and .mp3 files were there!

Still don't know why the .wav files are not showing up in the "Artists" category.
Most of the "Albums" category for each letter (A, B, C) only has 1 or 2 "Albums" out of 50, 275, 77 playlists

I believe it to be a "sorting" issue, not sure if that's associated with tags or lack of them.

Bottom line, I can listen to my entire digital library via the "Playlist" or "Music Folder" category in IPeng. I am going to try and figure out how sorting is accomplished in ITunes

    ignore the naysayers .......

about not using WAV! ...... if you prefer it, then you prefer it!, as do I ....... 3500+ albums 95%+ ripped as WAV and organised perfectly ...... the comments about tagging are true, WAV files need a little more care and consideration but it is not in any way difficult. You are right also re copies for the car etc ........ WAV files are handled perfectly by windows media player and lets face it, most people use windows based pc's ........ stick to WAV if you prefer and let the rest FLAC off ............... sorry couldnt resist that one. happy listening

I suspect a tagging issue. itunes is very different in that it keeps metadata in a database. You should be able to use itunes to convert your WAV files to ALAC (lossless). And the metadata should transfer over automatically. Try this with an album and see if this works as expected.
