    Problem after unexpectedly shutdown

    Hello!

I have downloaded Logitech Media Server v7.7.2 but cant get it to work without problems.
It works good until the computer is shut down or logged off unexpectedly,
Then Im unable to start or stop LMS.
I cant connect to LMS from my units (Radio and touch) or use the control panel. Even if I choose LMS to NOT star automatic it does after a failed shutdown and cant be stopped ..
I does not mater if I log in as a admin or not. I must uninstall LMS and install again.

I have tried to find out what im doing wrong but cant find any answer.

    I have Norton 360 installed.

Anybody else with the same problem or anybody with some good answers??

What operating system are you using? What do you mean by "shut down or logged off unexpectedly" and "failed shutdown"?

    Hello!

    I'm using W7.
If someone shuts down the computer WITHOUT stopping LMS or power failure, the problem starts. I'm not sure if it is LMS or me/the computer.....

    Same thing yesterday.
I install LMS, starts it and it works fine.
Then I shut down the computer WITHOUT stopping LMS and start up the computer again.
LMS starts automatically and can't be stopped or logged in to from the units.
When I try to stop LMS I get a message with "Can't stop LMS, contact admin and read loggfiles"

I'm I the only one with this problem???

I can't say whether you're the only one with this problem, but it certainly is unusual. First off, when you shutdown your Win 7 PC I hope you use the "Windows Start Button > Shutdown" process rather than holding in the PC power button. That's just good practice, but shouldn't have any impact on your LMS problem. It is not necessary to stop LMS before putting your PC into sleep mode or powering it off. LMS should resume as normal when you return the PC to power on.

The good news is that LMS starts whenever you wake up or reboot your PC; that's what you want. With LMS running you say your Squeezeboxes can not find the server. It's possible the Squeezeboxes are "stuck" pointed to an old server or pointed "nowhere". The easiest way to address this is to reboot the Squeezebox by pressing and holding in the reset button on the back of the unit. Hold the button in until you see the Logitech logo on screen. This should erase all settings and restart the initial setup process. As part of that setup the Squeezebox will search your network for available servers.

Another possible reason why your Squeezebox units can't find the server is because it is not actually running. When you reboot the PC after LMS has been installed is the Notification Icon blue (running) or gray (stopped)? If gray, we need to figure out why LMS is not starting.

As for not being able to manually shutdown LMS, I'm a bit puzzled. Again, you rarely need to stop LMS in any case. On my PC I can do this by single-clicking on the LMS icon in the lower right. It can also be done within the "LMS Control Panel" application. A more heavy-handed way to do this is to launch Windows Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC), find SQUEEZ~3.EXE (or something similar) and "End Process". You may be having problems because you installed LMS while logged in under an account with administrator rights, but you are not logged in under an administrator account when trying to stop it? I'm just guessing now...

One thing I would suggest is that when you next reboot your PC you give LMS some time to start and fully index your library before any more experimentation.

    Hello!

Yes I shut down with Windows meny. But sometime my kids use the meny ,but ignore that others are logged in and just chooes "shut down"

    I installed under admin account.
BUT when the problem starts (again now) I use the Windows Task Manager and kills SQWEEZ1 (Notification Icon blue) then I start LMS under other account as an administrator (windows meny).
If I then go to the control panel-diagnostic the following message appears:
"Logitech Media Server is running but can not connect to port 9000.Following programs can block the connection:"
    It does't say whith program.....
Server IP is OK but Port 3483, 9000 and 9090 says: "Operation could not be performed"

I'm also noticing that the control panel is "a bit slow"...

And if I start LMS as a non administrator this message appears under LMS control panel-diagnostic:
    "optionally software conflict detected"

Even if I logg in as admin I must uninstall LMS and install it again to get it to work (for five minutes or so....)

I let LMS work and index the libary, then I use the "webcontrolpanel" to see the tracks

I'm more than a bit puzzled and it makes me crayz not to get it to work.....

Could it be Norton? I say No since it works for a few times. Or??

Yes, could be Norton. Is there any other media server running on that same PC that may also be accessing those ports? Tried just stopping then restarting LMS to clear these ports? Maby an LMs Cache flush might help? LMS > Control Panel > Advanced > Clear Cache > *apply*, then restart LMS.

I rarely bother stopping LMS when I need to reboot the two WinXP computers LMS is running on, never had an issue like you are seeing.

    Hello!

    No other media server running.

I can't stop LMS from control panel to cache flush.
In the control panel "Don't start automaticly" is choosen but stil LMS is starting and can't be stopped....
What I also see that is not correct is that my password for mysqweezbox account in the control panel is to long and not like I typed it the first time.

looks like I'm the only one with this problem.....

MySB.com password length is a display default, just ignore that. Unless it says "invalid" you are fine. But until LMS can properly see MySB.com then this is not an accurate status notification anyway.

You can try disabling LMS startup in two other ways. From your Startup programs and from your Services menu. How you do that on Win7 I have no idea.

Those needed ports are being blocked by something. Very strange.

Ones my SBS(Squeezebox server) stopped randomly after an update.
After sometime I notisted that my password was off under - Settings -> Advanced -> Security ->
This was after an update. So please check this even do you are not using it normally.
After I lock my system again everything work OK again.
