    New to Touch

Hi all, first visit and new to Touch.
I would like to know what I should be doing here. I have just received my Touch used, and when I connect it to my cable network, it picked it up without a hick-up, that was good, but it wants to update the Software to version:
7.7.2 r9663. I did a Factory Reset and it will not let me go into the Setup Menu, goes straight to Update Software.
Is it save to let it do it without being connected to a PC. Any known problems with that update anyone experienced specific problems. Trying to find out as much as I can.

    Thanks in Advance

let it update the firmware/software when it offers to do this. No issues whatsoever with my two TOUCH players and the latest software/firmware.

And I assume you've already gone to "mysqueezebox.com" on the web, created an account. As part of the setup process you'll have to enter these mysb.com credentials.

p.s. if you have issues with the latter, this may be because the prior owner did NOT disconnect the TOUCH from his own mysb.com account. This can be done by either the prior owner or ultimately logitech can do it for you.

and although a bit out of date (squeezenetwork is now mysqueezebox.com and SqueezeCenter is now Logitech Media Server (LMS)), these wiki's can be useful background:

    New To Touch

Wow, thank you garym and dasmueller,
I think that I am making progress slowly, I did as you suggested garym, downloaded and installed new software went through faultlessly also registered with mysqueezebox.com and was able to change owners at the same time, so that is all OK now.
Managed to search for a bunch of radio stations works OK too, only problem I am still having is getting my USB drives to play.
At the moment while trying out I am only using my headphones, not connected to any speakers as yet.
Getting there I hope with your help.
    Many thanks

If you are attaching your USB drives directly to your TOUCH (i.e., using "TinyLMS" inside the TOUCH instead of LMS running on your computer or NAS, this is a bit more "touchy" in terms of getting it to work right. The "tinyLMS" is a crippled version of the software. It can work, but is certainly not the good user experience as using full LMS. You might check this post for best practices in using "tinyLMS" with an attached USB drive.

edit: and the initial scan of a USB drive can take hours and hours if you have a large collection. So don't try to do anything until after the full scan. When I helped my brother set his up with about 50,000 mp3 tracks, I had him connect and let it scan overnight just to be sure. AND, if you are going to use USB attached to touch, plan on leaving it there, because everytime you remove and reattach, it does a scan again. All this is a pain, which is why most of us around here would recommend to NOT use the tinyLMS with attached USB drive. Instead run full LMS on a local computer or a powerful x86 NAS.

    Useful info, Gary.

Looks like there's no point in using USB on the LST.

It is the potentially worst way to use it. That said, my brother uses a TOUCH with attached USB for the last couple of years with no issues. He has about 50,000 mp3 files on about a 4 year old 1TB USB drive (that stays attached to TOUCH always). So it certainly can work. But it is not the optimum way to use SB stuff....

I also use the touch connected to a usb drive with no issues.
The good thing is that you don't have to swich on any kind of pc/nas so you are completely independent and less consuming electricity.
The bad thing is that when you want to transfer more music, you have to unplug the the drive and reescan again.
The soft will not crash if you do one thing at a time.
