    Vortexbox appliance and FLAC mirror

    I have a Vortexbox Appliance.
I would like to make a copy of my FLAC-files for use on my iPhone, preferrably in a lossy format.
I tried the FLAC mirror, creating a new m4a library, which I thought was lossy compression format. However, m4a files add up to 217 GB, whereas my FLAC files are 214 GB. How can this be possible?

hmmm, you've done something wrong or your are looking at the wrong directory. how did you tell VB to make m4a rather than mp3. Is that something you can modify in the webGUI or did you edit the script?

Apparently, you need to use the mp3 mirror rather than the ALAC mirror. M4A is Apple lossless (as mentioned on the screen.)

In general, m4a could be either AAC (lossy) or ALAC (Apple lossless). The filename extension alone won't tell you which it is. But as bfl's screenshot clearly shows, that Vortexbox option writes Apple Lossless.

Thanks guys, you´re right. I´ve skipped the ALAC format, I want to give the mp3 mirror another go although I´ve had some iTunes/cover-issues before with mp3-files.

Now that my mp3 mirror has been working for a couple of days, it all just seemed to stop. It got to Schumann in my library, then quietly stopped. Although Schumann can be somewhat exhausting at times, I cannot really figure out why this happens.

I tried to start the process again a couple of times, and got the message "mp3 mirroring already in progress". When I checked, all the folders up until S (Schumann) seem to be ok, they contain the correct number of mp3-files along with the cover.jpg. For folders T-Z there is no music, only a cover.jpg and folder.jpg.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
