Bought a duet because the price was good, SEK 1795, but it was a huge misstake.
The receiver installed without a problem but when it came to the controller it all started.
1: The clock showed random time.
2: No option to upgrade the firmware, could only choose "cancel". Tried from a SD card, still only option "cancel".
3: Didn't show up in the server web interface.
4: Several time it got stuck, couldn't change player or music source.
Squeezebox was a good product before Logitech took over, the only product with the Logitech logo that works is the Boom but I reckon Logitech hadn't ruined it jet and it was still Slimdevices HW and SW.

Many SB3 units also have the Logitech logo.
The Touch works fine IME. As long as you stay away from TinySC/TinySBS/TinyLMS.
The Duet is fiddly.

It's hard to troubleshoot your SBC problems from the limited description. Have you done a factory reset of the SBC? The Duet can be a bit fiddly to set up, but for the past 3 years mine have been rock solid, including several Controllers.
I miss the Slim Devices days, too, but your chronology is a little off. The Duet was developed and released well before the Boom, and indications from SD people are that the Duet -- and especially the SBC -- were well underway before the acquisition.

The Duet controller won't show up in the webUI unless you've enabled the beta feature on the controller for it to be a player, only the Receiver shows up in the webUI. As aubuti says, you should do a factory reset on the controller and then set it up from scratch. Home -> Settings -> Advanced settings -> scroll all the way to the bottom for the Restore factory settings item.
