Help with uninstall of latest and greatest and installing something that just works

I recently updated my Ubuntu Server (8.04) as I normally do. This caused Squeezecenter to stop working, though. I then upgraded and now I have the very latest version, which apparently also has a new name. It looks great on my Android (and added untold remote control functionality that I was not even aware of) but it stops scanning at about 40% of my library. It does this no matter how I try to scan the library. The music it does scan will play and all other functionality appears to be fine.

Cursory research showed that this was a known problem. I just need to get back to a stable version that will scan my entire library. Are there instructions somewhere that I can follow to: 1) thoroughly uninstall the current semi-working version, and 2) install the latest stable version (I think it's 7.4 or 7.5 but correct me if I'm wrong). My repository is currently set for "deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main"

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

You might try the version from testing main. I've found the 7.7.3 and 7.8 scanners to be the most robust and forgiving versions I've ever used. YMMV, of course. Anyway, that's what I would suggest: try going forward rather than backwards. Also, if you're using LMS versions with the DLNA plugin, try turning off photo and video scanning while you're still working through the kinks.

Actually, you might take a look at this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...d-historically

Michael suggests that Perl 5.8.8 is the minimum Perl version needed for SBS/LMS. I believe that Ubuntu server 8.04's Perl version is 5.8.3, but you could check that with a # perl -v command. I can report that I was very happy with Ubuntu server 10.04 and am experiencing no problems with 12.04.

    Thanks

I have Perl 5.8.8 and I will look into one of the test versions. Thank you for taking the time to offer assistance. I'm looking forward to getting it working again. Thanks.
