Looking for a song from the 80s

A few weeks ago in a trusted club I heard a song which IMHO is from the 80s. Unfortunately, several problems occured at the same time: the DJ neither knew the artist nor the title of the song, my smartphone had no data connection so I could not use a music identification app like Shazam or Soundhound and I could not recognize the title of the song as the singer used a language which might have been Italian.

    So all I know is:

    • The male singer has a deep rough voice, maybe electronically lowered.
    • He is rapping (well, sort of - are there Italian rappers?).
    • Parts of the song are sung by female singers / a female chorus. They interact with the male singer.
    • It surely is no musical highlight, rather a disco song. Something like a one-hit wonder (if it can be called a "hit" actually).

Does anyone have a wow factor? :-)

    That sounds like the one.
I've got the 45 rpm in front of me, I remember dancing to this in 1974, single is dated 1972, B side is titled "Disc Jockey". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLS9s...eature=related

Henry66, kidstypike: I am sorry, but that is not the song I am looking for. I would even go so far as to say that the singer in my song is not Adriano Celentano. The song I am seeking is a little bit more modern than the song you mentioned, the male voice is deeper and it is rapping. One word I recognized sounded like "balla". I would say the song is from the era of "Italy Disco" but the language is definitely not English (in opposite to most of the Italy Disco songs I know which were sung in English).

    We have a winner!

You are my hero of the day, verypsb!

This indeed is the song! And when I read the artist's name "Pino D'Angiò", I remembered that the only little piece of information the DJ could give me sounded like "look for a man named Nino D'Angelo". As I knew some songs from "Nino D'Angelo", I was sure that never ever this song was sung by him.

(Okay, and now that I hear "Ma Quale Idea" again, I must say that it might not be a female chorus ;-) )

    You really made my day!

Glad to help :-). I knew I had that song you described, but couldn't remember the title or artist... However, I could remember the title of another song, based on a sample of the song you described. Don't Call Me Baby by Madison Avenue. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4-PcMSxrUA) Now I had to google to find out which song they used for the sample... And there you have it: Ma Quale Idea by Pino D'Angio :-)

Do you know if a maxi single of "Ma Quale Idea" exists? I only found the single version at Amazon (with a length of 4:27), but at Google I saw a cover picture of maybe a longer version of this song ("Maxi 45 Longue Version").
