Net::UDAP or router settings for fixed IP ?

    Hi

After reading various threads about improving Duet stability, I decided to fix the IP address for my music server laptop & Duet.

I did this in my router config page.

Net::UDAP seemed a bit techie for me, and didn't want to mess about changing over to wired connections etc.

Will using fixed IP allocation in router still work with respect to system stability or is Net::UDAP essential ?

    thanks

reserved ip in the router still uses dhcp , but assign the same adress all the time .

you can also assign true static-ip by turning of the routers dhcp and then do a factory reset of controller and reciever and re setup the duet .

and make sure that the routers dhcp is exluded from the adresses you want to be static, there is usually a range setting

I don't realy now ,but making the server be at the same ip would sure help , but the server is usually very easy to set to static ip anyway , you got a whole OS to help you.

But there is a bug in the receivers DHCP implementation that makes it not acquire ip-address at restarts (power on/off ) in some cases

Address reservation in the router should cover you most of the time, however even with address reservation I've seen routers DHCP hand out another address from the one reserved for a given MAC address. Where I want a static IP address I set it in both DHCP address reservation and in the device.
