Ok I have had my SBTouch for a few weeks now and am now starting to install some plugins. The Musicip one is one I'd love to have I have enabled it in server settings but I have not got a clue on how to even start getting it to work. I have set the setting to use musicip. There are so many entries in the Wiki and links to musicip seem to be broken. From what I understand I have to install it on my pc as well as enabling it through Logitech media server.so the media server bit is done what next? I have also seen links to spicefly should I use this rather than the musicip.com link
I am running windows 7 an SB touch and an SB radio
thanks in advance

Yes the music ip server has to run in the background on the same machine as LMS ( and be started before LMS ).
Sorry to say it can be a bit tricky to get running MIP seems to be abandon ware :-/ we where all hoping that logitech would step up and find a replacement tool but no .
Especially these day when any half decent music software can automagically whip up smart playlists ?--------------------------------------------------------------------

Luckylu, here are some links to read about MusicIP (MIP), also a search of this forum will find a lot of threads -
1. MIP wiki - http://musicip.wikia.com/wiki/MusicIP_Wiki
2. SpiceFly MIP articles and download of the software - http://www.spicefly.com/squeezeboxmip.html
3. An earlier thread - http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...wbie-questions
Come back here with your questions after you have had a read of the threads, you are sure to have a query or two about MIP "analysis".A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee.

Thanks for your replies
Thanks for the replies especially the links they seem to be helpful or would be to one not as technically challenged as me. I still don't really get it though and seeing as I've already rebooted/ rescanned / cleaned cache my SBoxes twice since getting them looks like I might be doing it a few more times before I get this one cracked. Just one thing have I got this right?
musicip is a generic piece of software which is free, and can be used with the Logitech music ip plugin with a bit of manual setting up (could be tricky for me). Sugar cube is a simpler to set up more functional plugin ( designed for people like me) but not free.
Anyway off to try it now hopefully it won't be too long a night.

Sorry to throw another link at you at this stage, but I found this wiki article indispensible when setting up MusicIP on my headless server: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph..._SqueezeCenter
Don't worry about understanding all of MusicIP or Spicefly. I've used MusicIP fairly problem-free for years and still don't fully understand its hocus pocus. Good luck -- it is the best way to generate excellent playlists.

The sugarcube aproach has the feature of still usings LMS own database , while the official ones simply import the MIP dB , if you think LMS has scanning bugs, well the abandoned MIP have some more .
The clunky thing in both occasions is that you have to remember to scan your music in another application ( MIP ) to keep it up to date .
And in my case as the headless MIp server is another machine it includes some hands on deleting of files etc .
And it can take an enourmous amount of time to analyze the files , I'm about to install anew PC will see if it gets faster with a native windows instead of virtual machine on an old P4--------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to all finally up and running with musicIP
Well its taking me long enough but finally got it working. I found the step by step instructions on sugarcube/spicefly site the most helpful.
Now I suppose I have to play with it a bit to really get into more "trouble" but so far so good.
One thing as a tip I read in another post which seemed to work for me. Scanning my 8000 songs didn't take as long as many posts have led me to believe. I scanned them before installing the headless part and it was quite quick.
Again big thanks for the replies
