As some of you may have seen, FreeNAS 0.7 development has "ceased" and all future development is in a new version "NAS4Free" (known as v.0.9, to distinguish it from the more commercially-oriented FreeNAS 0.8).
I was about to try LMS on FreeNAS 0.7 for the first time, but as i have just started out, I'd rather rebuild my NAS on NAS4Free instead, as it has a future. So, my question:
Has anyone run LMS on NAS4Free yet? Any issues?
I guess mherger is the one to ask? I can't see anything about NAS4Free yet on Michael's website.
Thanks in advance!

SlimNAS will _not_ run on NAS4Free, as it's based on a newer OS version
(the same reason why it doesn't work on FreeNAS 8 - among others).
You might want to join the related discussion in the NAS4Free forums:

Maybe openmediavault could be an alternative, since it's a project of a former FreeNAS developer (IIRC). Also because it is based on debian squeeze LMS might be installed without much problems (haven't tried it myself).

Just to round this off, I installed SlimNAS on a FreeNAS (0.7) server - works very well! Many thanks, Michael!

Glad to hear SlimNAS is working well for you. I agree it is a brilliant set of work and the only reason I continue to run FreeNAS .7.2. NAS4Free is news to me and interesting, but can't replace the SlimNAS/FreeNAS combo. I second the many thanks to Michael.

Does anyone know if any versions of freenas that are known to work with slimnas work with osx lion and samba?
I need to stay on freenas for slimnas but I also need to connect to the nas from osx lion with samba because samba is the only share module I can get to work with user permissions correctly.
Trouble is I cant find any info on if any pre 7.5 versions now support osx lion over samba.
Any help or pointers would greatly be appreciated as I have been trying to track this down for months.
Thanks,
Mark

Markab, I can only answer about Snow Leopard (which works fine for me with LMS+SlimNAS+FreeNAS0.7+SAMBA) - but, as you specifically said "Lion" - I guess that's not much use to you?

Rather than start a new thread, does anyone happen to know the latest version of FreeNas that will work with SlimNas, and, if possible, where to download it?
It's very hard to find 0.7 Freenas these days.
Shame.

I've installed the OpenMediaVault and the LMS plugin on a friend's server, and so far it has been working really well. I'm very impressed with OMV.
The LMS plugin is here: http://code.google.com/p/openmediava...downloads/list
