Sadly yes.
But a friend of mine just gave me a DAC he does not use and the optical output works great, then i'll deal with it this way :-)

Ok if works on optical out the analog must simply be broken .

All 3 outputs are active in parallel and all are affected by the volume controll .

For external DAC use I would keep the volume at 100% or at lesst have the Amps volume such as i have the squeezebox volume >70% .
