My LMS is running real nice (on a DS-412+). However, I noticed I'm missing some Artist. Not that they're not scanned rightly, but they show up in weird places. For instance Genesis and Deep Purple are missing in the Artist List under their respective letters (G and D).
I did manage to find them, though. They're hidden under V (Various?). However, their tags (as seen in LMS) show:

I'm not sure where LMS gets the WM tags from, as the files only have ID3v2.3.0 tags. Even removing the tags and rebuilding them doesn't change a bit. I even have some directories without tags as test, but they don't show up in the right place as well. It feels I've tried just about everything.
Any clues?

What format are the files? WMV? MP3?
What did you use to rip? was it WMP?
When you say the tags appear in LMS, where do you see the tags?LMS Version: 7.8

check them in mp3tag do they have compilation tags ?
Check the compilations settings and experiment with those .
You probably have group compilatiosn together on ?
Does the TPE2 setting makes a difference ?

These are all MP3s. Tags edited with MP3Tag, Tag&Rename and Foobar2000. I have only a few compilations, and those are set. They show up at 'Various Artists', as expected. The TPE2 settings don't seem to matter at all.
If you click on a song in LMS, you get the option to 'Show Tags'. Then it shows the info I put in my first post.
What really baffles me, is that it doesn't seem to matter what I do. I have changed all settings for compilations, I have directories without any tags, in some directories I use compilations, in others I don't, just to experiment with different settings. And I cannot figure out why Genesis and Deep Purple (and a handful others) are on the wrong page and all the others (43k songs) are all right. I can't find any differences other than the PRIV/WM tags. And those I cannot find using any of the above mentioned programs.

If you get impatient , you can "brute force" solve the problem ,call it a mystery and use mp3tag and remove *all* tags and retag from scratch .
But you never know what was to problem (nor do any of the curius readers of the tread )
You don't se this weird tags even in the extended tag view (rigth click ) in mp3tag ?--------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried brute force, but to no avail, unless it means I need to clear out the tags of all 43,789 songs in my database. The PRIV tags I cannot find in any tagging application. I have tried Mp3 TagThat, MusicBrainz Picard, MusicBee, foobar2000, MP3tag (2.5), Tag & Rename, MP3 Tag Tools

Edit: by deleting all compilations from my song database and adding them as regular songs fixed my problem. Deleted all tags from the compilation before rebuilding the tags (just to be sure). Glad things look better now!Last edited by blueadept; 2012-05-15 at 03:02.
