This behaviour does not seem to be restricted to 7.8 beta.
    I can completely confess!

In my experience "Look for new and changed media files" only works correctly if the filename (or directory) has been changed. Artwork has been a problem for as long I can remember...
My solution: A dialy scheduled "Clear and rescan"

Not useful ... a clear rescan takes 5 hour (brand new PC but around 294.000 files) - so if I run rescan every evening for 5 hours, I've got no time left to LISTEN to my music ;-)

Yes, full rescan works ok. But you loose track of 'new music' (latest additions to the library) with the rescan. I really like the list of recently added albums.

Do you get them on CD? Do you mean that you only rip the bonus tracks and don't rip the other tracks on the CD?

Of course I double checked all tags - they are the same for the whole album. And the folder.jpg is the same as the embedded so it wouldn't mind which one is shown - but it actually shows none.

And after a clean re-scan everything is fine again, all covers are shown (till the next change) so I'm pretty sure "my" tags are fine... ;-)
If I were to do something like that (which I would not, I'd simply re-rip the entire CD) then I'd make sure all tracks on the CD had a new timestamp. You could do that by opening up all files in a tagging program like Mp3tag and resaving all files.

Artwork scanning in Squeezebox software has always stood somewhere between very badly and a little bit broken.

Excatly that is what I'm already doing. I open the whole folder/album in MP3tag and change the "track tag" - eg from 01/10, 02/10 to 01/14, 02/14.... - so it gets a new timestamp - I can confess, LMS recognizes the new time for I have the "old track album" AND the "new track album" in "new music" ... but it does recognize them as TWO separate albums although ALL tags are identically (except TITLE etc...)

It still keeps 'new music' in order with a full rescan, as long as you don't change the timestamp when amending with Mp3tag

You're right. If I would "touch" the files when adding to the library, and if I wouldn't touch the filedate when changing tags, they would stay in chronological order! Thanks, that's good news.

    @mherger:

I've made an amazing test concerning the bug:

I got an old album with 14 tracks in my database.

Now I got a new edition with NEW artwork and 30 tracks on it!

So I DELETED the old folder includinge the old album and added the WHOLE NEW album...

After an update scan I see:
The FIRST 14 tracks with OLD (deleted!) artwork - when I "browse them" (click on the album) there is the default album,

tracks 15 - 30 with new artwork as "new album" with same title, same date, same... everything as the old one ...

    Hope that helps!

This IS very similar to what always seen since way back .

My amateur interpretation is that there are stale entries in the database and also stale images in the image database file .
And that LMS thinks some of the new files are the old files for some reason .

    I f you do like this :

    1. First remove the whole album completely then do a "scan for new and changed" is it still there , or is the album completely gone ?

    2. If it's gone add the new version of the album an do another "scan for new and changed"

Re long scan times, you don't have to be there and watch the scan for 5 hours do it while at work or sleeping ?
