I seem to have a strange mix of album art for my music collection.
Each album has a folder.jpg - this displays on my Touch screen.
I notice, however, that a lot of tracks also seem to have an associated image (often different to the album image). I see these when I use mp3tag to check on a folder's tagging.
Is there any way either to remove the track images, or to standardise them so they are the same as the album image?

You should be able to remove them in mp3tag. If i understand your wishes correctly, the easiest thing to do would be to delete all the images that are embedded in the track files, and then just carry on with the single folder.jpg in each folder. You can probably do the image deletion in batch, but I'll have to defer to one of the mp3tag wizards around here for how to do that.

In Mp3Tag
Tools > Options > General > Subdirectories (make sure this is ticked)
Change Direcory to a 'head' folder that contains all your tracks, or at least a large chunk of them.
Select all (CTRL-A)
Right Click > Extended Tags... > delete cover art
repeat as necessary
voila!
Of course back-ups are always a good thing before large scale changes are attempted.

Other thoughts , you can probably batch embedd the cover.jpg with both mp3tag or puddletag .
I haven't figured how but most likely possible .
There are albums with track artwork !! Different art per track !
These are usually from downloads ,some compilations and very often from bandcamp .
There is a bug regarding handling of track art vs album art , but I keep the track art in case the bug gets addressed and fixed . I now have ~40 such albums.--------------------------------------------------------------------

Disclaimer: this is with using my commercial software...
With bliss, enable the cover art rule as discussed in the cover art tutorial and set the co-located image file name to be 'folder'. Also, set the Embed cover art in music files to be Remove all embedded art. This will remove all embedded art and try to find new art for those albums missing a folder.jpg.
When that's done, change the Embed cover art in music files back to Embed art where possible and apply rules. This will embed all the folder.jpgs.bliss - fully automated music library management. Read the music library management blog including how to use bliss to manage Squeezebox album art
