quite frankly, i would like to be able to ditch server altogether when i want to, and have some kind of transparent, near optionless middleware that would power the hardware. essentially, something to turn the hardware into a remote soundcard, so i could use ANY software i want, and play to it.
so, for instance, i could fire up winamp and when i told it to play, the audio would be sent to the hardware.

I think an updated, easier to use and better looking webinterface would be nice. Something that looks a bit more modern.

I think I understand what you mean with art, but what do you mean with metadata ?
Would you expect it to find metadata even if your tags are a complete mess or non existent or are you looking for a way to find extra metadata which most people normally don't put into tags ? Can you give examples of what kind of data you would like to retrieve ?
How would you like to metadata to be handled, is it something you manually select to retrieve/view for an individual item in your library or is it something you would even expect to be shown in the browse menus ?
Regarding album art, are we just talking about automatically retrieving album art for albums which doesn't have album art previously or were you thinking about a manual operation where you retrieve album art for a selected album/track ?Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

From what kind of device would it be important to do the purchase ?
Are we talking all interfaces, like even a IR remote, or do you expect that you will sit beside a computer when you like to purchase something ? Would it be useful if you could only purchase when you are sitting beside a computer, or do you think it have to work on the other remote types to be useful ?Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

From my perspective:
1. Better support for podcasts (streaming m4a files, a "what's new" channel that would sort all podcasts chronologically, marking episodes as listened), especially since MediaFly is now no longer available for consumers.
2. AirPlay support
3. Some sort of Firefox/Chrome plugin/widget that would pass a weblink directly to LMS to stream
4. Ability to temporarily add libraries on machines which are not always on the network

Are there any specific iPhone/iPad apps which you feel it would be more important to be able to send the audio to the Squeezebox for ?
I'm just asking because AirPlay is a bit tricky from a legal standpoint unless you like to pay license fees to Apple, so if we know exactly which apps you are looking for support in there might be other solutions that are easier to accomplish that fulfills the need.
Are we talking about computers where SBS/LMS can't be installed ?
In that case, do you have any preference how the library should be made availablable ?
Are we talking about
* iTunes libraries
* machines which expose a network disk on the network
* machines which have a UPnP server installed ?
(Which would be most important for you personally)
Today, you can install SBS/LMS on the temporary machine and just switch on the Squeezebox which SBS/LMS it is connected to, but I suspect you are looking for a solution that doesn't require you to switch SBS/LMS on the Squeezebox ?
Do you want to browse these temporary library separately or are you expecting them to be fully integrated in the standard browse menus so its albums appear in the same list as the albums from the permanent library ?
Finally, what kind of temporary machines are we talking about ? Computers within the family or something else ?
Is the need to easily be able to access, browse and play music on all laptop's within the family that are currently connected to the network ?Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

An updated version of Inguz EQ, maybe using SoX.
InguzEQ was (and still is for me) a great plugin but some users are having trouble getting it to go.A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee.

These are features which should be in LMS [next] and/or Squeezebox [next], I think. It would allow visitors to play something from their iThingy the've brought with them on my system directly, without complex reconfiguring/rescanning. It also would allow me to send audio from my MacBook to the Squeezebox, without problems. (When browsing the internet, for example)

An example from yesterday. I ripped the "More Moondog" CD published by WEA France in 1991. I had one of the CD databases return 1991 as the release date. For me this is wrong. Release info is Prestige 1956, remastered 1991. Further, this CD is a (hidden) combo: LP "The Story of Moondog", Prestige 1957 has sneaked in as "bonus tracks" on this CD.
So with the help of discogs I have split the CD in 2, set the appropriate dates, and grabbed the original LP artwork (google image helps here, too)
My tags are not in a mess. The music industry was: CDs were expected to hold 60 minutes of music, so we end up with many nondescript compilations, combos, or CDs where there are more "bonus tracks" than there were tracks on the original recording.
With the SB we are in the digital realm so I can fix this kind of situation, and finally understand what I am listening to.
Another recent example. Miles Davis' soundtrack for "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud" on CD includes a ton of studio alternate takes, following each master take. Listening to this CD was a bizarre experience… Finally I compared the original LP tracklist and the CD reissue's, split the files in 2, as "original LP" + "bonus studio takes". And for the first time I could enjoy the LP thoroughly.4 SB 3 • iPeng (iPhone + iPad) • SqueezeLite • Squeezebox Server 7.6.2 (Debian 6.0) with plugins: CD Player, WaveInput by bpa • IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) • Server Power Control by Gordon Harris • Smart Mix by Michael Herger • PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple • Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson • Just Covers by Tom Kalmijn • WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld • Local Player, BBC iPlayer, SwitchPlayer by Triode • Auto Dim Display, SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins.
