Boom disconnecting from Wireless n router

I have my router set to wireless n (B+G+N) and notice then when I do, the boom connected to My SB disconnects every 5-10 minutes and needs to be reset to reconnect. If I change the router to B+G, no N, the the problem appears to disappear. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I sthere any G+N mode ? do you really have a B device (almost nothing usefull is B nowadays ) . B mode causes performance drops for G devices afaik.

No, unfortunately not. However, my experiment does not support your conclusion. B+G+N - Boom disconnects every 5-10 minutes. B+G - Boom's fine and does not disconnect. Since N operates on dual channels, then I was thinking that's perhaps why.

How bizzare ,is this some kind of draft-N router (made before the standard was really set ) does it have the latest firmware for it.

No, NetGear 3700 v2. A wireless n router has two modes of operation wireless n 150 and wireless n 300 (2.4GHz wireless N not the 5 GHz wireless N). To operate at wireless n 300 two 150 channels are used, for example 1 + 5. In order to operate at 300 you need a chipset in your wireless device that supports 2 spatial streams. Many wireless n devices only support one spatial stream, so will only work at 150. My thinking is that the firmware in the boom and the chipset may have been built pre wireless n, so is gett confused with the two channels and perhaps is disconnecting from one and trying to connect to the other. In order to fix this, a firmware update would probably be required.

Have in mind that squeezeboxes are G devices (except SB1 who is B ),so it is not designed for any intricacies regarding interaction with N networks as you suspects .

However other users have functioning G+N networks ?

agree. seems like an odd problem. I can report that I have two G/N routers (at different locations) and they work fine with my stuff (only radio on wifi at the moment, but have had booms on wifi in past with these G/N routers). Netgear WNR3500v2 at one location, and Netgear WNDR3700 (dual band) at the other location.

    edit: settings g/n (300)
