Angry Inguz EQ and DCR - Help ! - "Prefences could not be saved to C:/Program Files........

    Hi everyone,

I would love to use Inguz as EQ and DRC but have fallen at the first hurdle just trying to get Inguz EQ to work.
The EQ interface works great BUT the EQ does NOT change the sound of the music.

I have checked the usual stuff, I am running latest LMS 7.72

*The Inguz plug-in is selected and running
*The EQ interface works perfectly on my PC and SB3. I can creat curves and adjust balance, bass etc on the screen
*The flac (x2) and inguz applications are running when I play a song
*A log file is generated each time and looks correct
*The folder locations for Inguz and DSP looks correct
*The config file has the correct mac addresses of both my squeezboxes
*I have altered the 'file types' to ensure that for flac only 'flac/inguz dsp' is selected (I only use FlAC files)

The music plays normally BUT the EQ does not change the sound of the music

The only clue I have is that I DO get a message that flashes for a second up on my squeezbox when I adjust any EQ setting that says :

"Prefences could not be saved to C:/Program Files............"

I am the end of my tether - anyone out there that can give me some pointers ?

    thanks guys !

I'm not a expert with Inguz but that message may be the clue - either a file/folder does not exist or it has the wrong permissions.

As far as I'm aware there are only two places in 'C:/Program Files' that Inguz needs to access.

    1. C:/Program Files (x86)/Squeezebox/server/Plugins/Inguz/

As far as I'm aware the only file written to is:
    custom-convert.conf

    2. C:\Program Files (x86)\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread/

This folder only contains three files directly relevant to Inguz (although some of the pre-existing files in there are also used by Inguz):
    dsputil.dll
    inguzdsp.exe
inguzdsp.exe.config (this one is the file that needs to be written to)

There are other places that Inguz stores data but not in 'C:\Program Files'

Make sure that the files/folders exist, that none of the them are locked and that read/write permissions are set.

Hope that this helps a bit.

    Unhappy

    Hi Bob,

    Thanks for the tips.
I allowed all the folders and files Inguz to be fully read/written etc = no difference.

The error message I get "Preferences could not be saved to C:/Program Files............", the file extensions is longer than C:/Program Files but I can't see the rest of the text on the SB3 display.
Playing around with things a little more, that error message only occurs when a track is actually playing.
I read somewhere Inguz can only make adjustments that affect the next track and not the current one, so maybe the error message is a red herring ?

The only other thing that looks suspicious to me is that 'room correction' is set to 'none' and has no other options that can be picked - is that a problem perhaps ?
I downloaded the Inguz room correction software but haven't yet recorded or loaded any curves, I also haven't any test tones available either.

So sadly still none the wiser !

    OK...

Have you rebooted the SB3 and stopped/started LMS server? Inguz requires that after it's been installed - it may require a couple of tries.

Until you have recorded room correction curves 'Room Correction' can only be set to 'none'. If you create a curve in the LMS EQ webUI the sound should change regardless of the 'Room Setting' - it won't be effective on the current track though, only on subsequent tracks. Have you tried making extreme changes (eg add 10db in treble range & subtract 10db in bass)?

Do you have EQ available as a menu option on SB3? I think this is where you will (should?) find the test tone options.

I have a Touch and know nothing about SB3 but when setting up Inguz got relevant error messages on the Touch screen (until I got it working properly). The error message may be relevant - is there no way of getting to the whole message?

I'm fairly sure there are other users on the forum successfully running Inguz on SB3 - hopefully one of them will help out.

    Hi Bob, thanks again.
Have rebooted lots of times still no joy.
The error message only happens if I make an adjustment during a track and not when playback is stopped.
The message only flashes up for fraction of a second on SB3 display and is lot long enough to see any more details.

Has anyone actually got Inguz to work with LMS7.72 ?

It's working for me with LMS 7.8 - Phil Leigh got it working from SbS 7.4 onward I think. Try looking at this thread here - it's a long read but I'll direct you to the last page:

    Good luck

Yes, 7.72 on XP for my "production" server and on Win7 for my test box.

Does the server log show the message ? The default log level for InguzEQ appears to be "Warn" which should put plenty of messages in the log if there is a problem.

    At last - Sorted !!!!

    It now works for me....

    What did do ?
Bought a SB Touch, connected it to my network and Inguz worked first time with no tweaks, reinstalls or anything - it just stated to work and actually change the sound.
There is obviously some bug or mod required for the old SB3

    Thanks for all the input
