Hello, hope someone can help me here.
My SB Touch has stopped working after I upgraded Logitech Media Server to version 7.7.2 recently. When I turn the SB Touch on it says it can't connect to the server.
I've checked the server control panel on my PC and on the 'Status' tab there's an error message at the top in red stating: 'You don't have privileges to install or start/stop the Logitech Media Server background service. Please start the control panel from the Windows Start Menu, via the right click context menu, and click "Run as Administrator".'
I've done what it suggests and it doesn't make any difference - I still just get the same error when LMS runs.
I've tried uninstalling LMS and reinstalling it (same version) but that hasn't fixed it.
I'm running it in Wndows 7 if that's significant.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Same Problem
I have the same problem. However, I learned that when I run the LMS as the administrator (right click on the short-cut and then click on "run as administrator" it won;t find the NAS. (Which it will find when I ge the "You don't have privileges..." message--but won't let me add to my library.)
Called customer service 3 times and no one will help. Solved one problem but created a worse one--no access to my growing collection of lossless music.

Can either of you post your server log file. That might help to figure this problem out.

You could also try uninstalling LMS, re-downloading the .exe-file to the desktop, and then right-clicking on it and choosing "run as administrator". That should install it correctly.

That almost worked
Thanks for the suggestion. That almost worked. Running the installation .exe file as administrator from the desktop all seemed to go OK, and it ran LMS as part of this, and it loaded OK without the privileges error message on the Status tab. So I rescanned my library and that was all OK.
However, when I shut my PC down again and restarted, the message is back, regardless of whether I start LMS by double clicking the desktop icon or running as administrator as per the error message instructions.
dasmueller asks above for the server log file, so I'll post that next to see if it gives any more clues...

Here's what's in the server log

Those last few rows are presumably my recent unsuccessful attempts to run it. (And I'm not sticking my tongue out - it's displaying some of the characters in the strings as icons).

From checking the 1st part of your server log, it is identical to mine except of course for date/time info. In the control panel Startup Options do you have automatically run at login selected ? Possibly using AnthonioBEL's process and then selecting automatically run at login before you shut down may help ? I am running 7.7.1 and it has never been a problem for me. Your problem sounds like a permission issue, but I am not a whiz at that type of thing.
Anyone else w any ideas ?Last edited by dasmueller; 2012-04-16 at 14:17. Reason: addition

How do I downgrade to 7.7.1?
Thanks. That early part of the log was when the server was briefly running OK after I followed AnthonioBEL's process. I think I've tried it set both ways, with it running automatically at login, and not. I'll try it again though when I get home tonight.
I was running 7.7.1 before I upgraded, and had no problems with it. I'm tempted to downgrade to 7.7.1 again, but I don't have the .exe to install that version, and can't find it on the Logitech site anywhere. I also don't seem to have an earlier restore point to go back to in Windows, presumable because I've now installed 7.7.2 a couple of times from scratch. So can anyone tell me how to go about downgrading to 7.7.1?
