Inguz with Triodes 'Enhanced Digital Output' plugin

This is really a question for Phil Leigh and John Swenson but other input is welcome.

I'm using Inguz with LMS 7.8 and a Touch with Triodes 'Enhanced Digital Output' plugin running. I can get true 24/192k working at the moment only by de-activating Inguz - Phils excellent Inguz config file activates sox on each track so downsamples 192k to 96k.

Bearing in mind John Swensons comments about DAC filters and possible advantages with running at 192k, would it be worthwhile changing the Inguz config file to upsample everything to 192k.

    I have a few 24/96k tracks & very very few 24/192k tracks.

Any comments from Phil and/or John?

    Anyone else...

    Thanks

    Bob

I know that the only real way to find out is to try it - but any thoughts on the subject would be useful .

    Hi Bob,
I'm not a INGUZ user so I'm not going to be able to help with that. Triode's stuff handles 192 because the server code actually asks a squeezeplay player what its capabilities are. The way Triode has squeezeplay connecting to a device means that it can actually get that information from the device and send it back to the server. If INGUZ is bypassing that mechanism you are going to have to come up with some other way to tell it to leave 192 alone and not downsample.

As to using SoX to upsample everything to 192, it might make an improvement, it might not, that is something that definitely has to tried on a system by system basis.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for replying.

Normally Inguz doesn't upsample or downsample as far as I'm aware - maybe Phil will be able to confirm this. Phils modified config file upsamples all 16/44.1k flacs to 24/96k - I guess the config file can be modified again to upsample to 24/192k.

The DAC I use (Lavry DA-10) can be switched from <=96k to accepting all sample rates up to 24/192k. I should be able to test out correct upsampling with sox by leaving the DAC in 96k mode - in which case there should be no audio output. Switching to all rates mode should then in theory produce audio output. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

There has been discussion on different forums in the past about the Lavry DA-10 and it's use (or not) of ASRC/SRC but no definite confirmation either way - Lavry regards the design as proprietary.

    Quoting myself above

I modified Phils Inguz config file to upsample to 24/192k - Inguz log shows that it's outputting at 24/192k. Switching the DAC between low & high sample rates - no audio on low rate, audio produced at high rate.

So Inguz can take advantage of Triodes 'Enhanced Digital Output' applet and produce true 24/192k output from the Touch.

What I need to do now is some extended listening to see if the higher sample rate makes music sound different.

    Hi Bob.

Do you run LMS and Phil Leigh's modified version of Inguz on your NAS?
Just curious as I would like to see if I could make the SB Touch feed my Metrum Octave DAC upsampled files.

    Best wishes,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

I tried over a long period of time to get Inguz working on my NAS but always failed. The web GUI and touch GUI appeared to function but the sound output never altered in any way.

In the end I moved over to using a windows 7 based system and that works a treat.

Thanks Bob. I may have found a way to upsample in SOX in another thread. If that doesn't work, I may return to computer-based upsampling.

    Best wishes,
    Peter
